LOL! The 8 freaked out a lube tech!

Took my car in for its first oil change while I've had it (I know how to change it myself before you guys start ribbing me but am super busy this week). The lube tech calls me out a few mins into it, panicking because of the milky oil on my dipstick. He thought I was an idiot when I told him it was normal...until he actually changed the oil and no water was actually in the oil. Lol!

What's weird for me was .... when I first bought the car (2005) I was seeing the milky white dipstick thing quite often.

After about a year or two I've never seen it again. <shrug>

If the car is driven enough to burn off the water condensation it will not appear. Additionally they corrected the problem on the 06, I have an 05 and complained about the milky white and they retrofitted the fix under warranty so I no longer get it either.

??? Sounds like the guy was generally concerned about your car, and went ahead and showed you his concerns. Not everyone knows milky substance on the dipstick is normal on an 8, typically would not be normal on any other car. If it was a rotary tech, then there is cause for concern, otherwise this guy was just doing his job. Give him a break!

This reminds me when I had my MR2 Spyder. I took into a local Lube place. After a few minutes the mechanic comes in and askes where the engine is. I replied, "it is in the back, you know what never mind". I got my keys and left.

I would never let any ding dong change my oil, especially with the filter being on top, i can just imagine the mess they would make.

I took my 87 MR2 to a Jiffy Lube like a month after I bought it (last june) just to see if they would mess up and yea... they did. They pop the frunk...no engine, pop the trunk.... no engine..

stand there baffled for a minute until I say, open the other lid.

yea, fun times.

Give the guy some credit for making you aware of it. But what are you doing taking your car into one of those places to get your oil changed.

Its different all over, the mazda dealership down here sells packages for 5 or 6 oil changes for $69.95. On my last car when I got my oil changed at meineke I think it was somewhere in the 25-30 range.

as some said, give the guy some slack, not everyone knows about the rx8. I took mine to AdvanceAuto and got swarmed by the techs/sales people asking questions (thankfuly i knew most of them from here)

but yeah, on a normal car id be calling you too, but since its an 8 it happens, he was just doing his job. probably the first rx8 he's changed oil in i bet.

Ahh, I'm glad I'm not the only ex MR2 driver on here. I used to let them unbolt my front skid plate and all. I always got a good kick out of it.

My dipstick was rather milky when I first got the 8, but since I never do any short trips or anything, and it gets warm enough to burn the water out, if you will, and my dipstick is never milky anymore.

But, do your own oil changes, you can get better quality oils for the cost of the cheapest stuff going places.

K1, $25.00 !! It cost me at $100.00 USD here just for the oil, plus $18.00 for the filter , mind you , gas is $2.00 a litre here. The up side is the Hiway speed limit is 130kph.

Whats the price difference between the 3 types of gas? if you have that option there

I know some places have very diverse price differences.. Like a dollar difference between each one. Here its only a 10 cent difference usually, which, imo, is incomparable to foreign country's prices for gas
