I am single and have no kids. I always laughed at my friends when they had baby seats in their cars...... While at a family party, we needed to go to out and could not all fit in one car. The girl I met at the party wanted to go with me, but couldn't because her kid needed a child seat. She was definitely suprised that the car had actually had four doors, and the rear seats could accomodate a child seat. Needles to say, the "blue car" is all we go around in!

I never thought that I would appreciate the rear seat set-up as much as I do now!

 

I love this car at night.. I runs quiet so it doesn't disturb my neighbors.
I can see all the way around because of the way the windows are placed.
When I stop to get out, a very good inside light comes on so you can find packages in the back - there are lights at the door bottom as well as top lights and the light in the door helps little grandmothers find their feet when they step out of the car.
I like the way the lights turn on when you stop the car and turn off when you 'beep' the key by double clicking.
I like how it gives you a subtle little warning beep to remind you that you have left the headlights on.
The low beams are wide and cover both sides of the road
The highbeams are really bright I can count the field mice that run across the road,
Even on a moonless night, on a newly blacktopped road without lines added, with no streetlights you can still see well enough to keep things under control.
I like the quick smooth brakes that keep you from running into deer, wild boars, and the odd buffalo standing in the middle of the road.
I like the mute for the radio on the steering wheel, so you can turn down the sound quickly and completely.
What a lovely machine!

 

If you drive an 8 first you might feel cheated that the higher priced machines don't give you anything more and often a lot less for the money! It spoils you. It's like our local wines - we do have vintages that you can buy for $150 dollars a bottle, but in blind taste test, the medals more often go to a better but $25 dollar bottle. You can always get something expensive but you can't always get something good!

 

Excellent theory for life in general!

 

This is the same deal with our dog we got 12 years ago. Sort of, its not a great analogy but. We picked him up and he only had 1 reward to his name compared to the other labs who many of them had over 10. But honestly, this has got to be one of the best trained, obediant, loving, friendly labs ever. All the people at the vet get so excited when they hear that Zeke is coming in. He even has his own private kennel and a giant bed when we leave town.(not by request)

 

I like the fact that the more I compare the car to other cars, the more I like my car and the decision I made to buy it. I see other cars I considered buying, but think mine is more beautiful, more practical, and better performing than the others -- all for a price that was less than the competition.

 

Most people say it is really hard to classify what the car is.

It is:

A 4 door sport sedan. Literally!


But in the mind of ANYONE who has driven it...it is:

A 2 door sports car.

The sound for the headlights is a different tone than the key in ignition warning. I had my door open the other day with the key still in and the tone came on. When I took the key out, the tone changed. That was when I realized the lights were on too. Very hard to ignore!

Can you imagine locking the keys in the car with the lights on?? You could watch the lights dim down to nothing while waiting for the locksmith!

 

Better yet, auto headlights would be a welcomed option as well as auto wipers (can't believe that mazda 3 has them), auto climate control (this one is the one I would appreciate the most).

 

Have to agree. My STi looked awful inside at night. The center console was GREEN and the instrument cluster was AMBER. WTF??? The interior of the 8 was obviously well thought out for having a great look by day and by night. I love the "cockpit" feel it gives the driver.

 

I have done this many times. I found myself in 2nd gear at 45 mph once and had been that way for about 5 blocks. Never noticed!

 

I LOVE how loud the car is at WOT. I actually didn't notice this until today.

Start out in first, at like 25% throttle, going like 10mph..and then go wide-open throttle. The exhaust note much louder! :O

 

I hate when I do this. I will be driving down my road before I get on the highway and I don't even realize it but I am cruising at 18 mph in first..and the engine is still cold! I try to never go over 4k on a cold engine until after 10-15 min of the needle be stationary at its usual place.

 

Probably good idea for engine longevity - but car very forgiving - example -Front lower bumper appears to have a 'memory' so that if you hit something accidently in the road, the dent slowly recovers - Blessings on good engineering!

 

This morning I came out of the health club and a couple that had been admiring my '8 remarked, "we thought it was black, but now in the Sun it's a nice cherry color." Will this never end?

Oh, and I like that with the windows down the airflow is such that nothing inside blows around to any great extent.

 

A telling anecdote regarding how much i love this car.

I am 22 and have spent the last 4 years of my life as an enthusiastic drinker at Penn State. Coming home to the suburbs, we are always crippled by the need for a DD. Having put in my time, it was a friend's turn to drive. There I am, sitting at a bar with a DD not drinking. Knowing my..."habits" my friends were dumbfounded. They asked why I wasn't participating, I simply grinned and told them "I think I want to go driving later..."

 

That is too funny... i find myself not drinking for the same reason............. lol

 

Alcohol good for removing squishy bugs and water spots on car - why waste it by getting wasted?

 

Had my 8 for about 2 months now.

-Ever seen the pearl mica under florecents/neons? . . .wow

-Holding the DCS button down for a few secs completely turns off DSC/TCS

-RX8’s already have the seat heater wiring in place in the center console, even if you don’t have leather seats or seat heaters. (dunno if that counts as "little")

-The stainless steel exhaust systems grow in length by about an inch when they are up to temperature. (i didn't knows this until like 2 days ago)

-It is possible to listen to sounds coming from each individual speaker of your car, in a prescribed order. With the radio on, Press the power button and AUTO-M at the same time for 1 s. The speakers will then sound in the following order: Front passenger side speaker and tweeter, drivers side Front speaker and tweeter, drivers side rear speaker, and finally passenger side rear speaker.

-The Power train Control Module (PCM) carries out a full sixty step test of the Metering Oil Pump (MOP) every twelfth time the engine is turned off. (so that was the sound i was hearing . . .)

-The ALC is awesome. Turns down the radio when slowing just in case you stop next to a family inna sedan with metal on blast.

This is so totally cool! Post that roll over stuff over at insurance!

People in the back seat can feel the airconditioner when you turn it on in the front!

People in the back seat have a little compartment for storage and stuff!

A folded walker fits in the back seat and you don't even have to lean the front passagner seat to insert it.

A folded wheel chair, if tipped, can fit in the back seat area if you lean the passenger seat forward so the chair slides in "on its back", and you will still have a whole trunk for luggage!

A folded walker can fit into the trunk if you pop off its handles (easily done), and still leave room for picnic baskets, coolers, and spare sweaters.

Old people and crippled people can slide into the passenger seat very easily and the doors open part way so they can hold onto them easily.

The door lights turn on when you open them so that old people can see to get out at night

My 94 year old mother loves this car so much she invites strangers to look at the engine that isn't there, and at the car wash people ask her questions like "Do you think my wife would like one" and she says "Yes, but you know you will want to drive it!"!

Her favorite saying "Don't you rev your engine at me, young man!"

 

The trunk is not little. Is enough for a week at my buddy's place at the beach, packaging wife, 2 daughters, guitar, business suit, computer pack, summer clothes, beach clothing, some toys, and RX8 necessities (compressor, tools, oil, cover). If you need more space, you need a truck. (see attached pic).

 

Point ur RX8 at a wall and turn on the blinkers . . . it says "haha".

I found this out by accident when my friend and i parked our cars in a parking lot. he tried his and it was the same thing. We both own white 05 rx8's. Not sure if it was meant to be like that but it was funny.

Try it out and see if it's the same for yours. Post ur year and color. Ours are a/t.

 

There is a rubber pad on the right side of the foot well so that you can rest your foot against it while on the gas and not worry about ruining the carpet.

 

Someone mentioned in an earlier post how the underside of the car is a work of art. I must second that emotion. I recently performed the 30K services on my 8. I was amazed at how well built the underside of this car is. One absolutely AMAZING note.. When I was jacking up the rear of the car, I only had to jack one side, the chassis is so well built that the other side lifted at the same time.

On the WOW factor. How many Z/G35 or s2000 owners have people in $100K Benzos, Austin Martins, and Bentleys pull up next to them and admire thier cars? Not many I'm sure.
