mines 100 full cover...i can still lower it some though, just got to go and send in some papers |
Yup, the RX-8 is surprisingly insurance cost effective since it's appraised as a 4-door with a 1.3L engine.
Insurance isn't stupid. It doesn't matter what you label your car as, they know what an RX8 is and what the risk factor will be for you driving it. Now if this car had an option for 2 or 4 doors, then that would be different, but since there is only one option, the only thing that will change the rate for the RX8 are your demographics.
I simply told my insurance company (USAA) that it was a '05 RX-8 6-spd, they were the ones who listed it as a 4-door with a 1.3L engine and therefore a relatively low rate.
Me: "Wow, that's a surprisingly good rate." USAA: (chuckling) "We take care of our 30+ year members." True however, it's not what we label our cars but what the insurance industry in general rates them, based on all sorts of data.

To the OP, the insurance companies use the VIN to work out the premium. Doesn't matter what you tell them, they will see all once they run the VIN.
And I'm paying $94/mo for my 8 and my wife's 08 Si...if it were just my car it would only be $48/mo. And I only have $50 deductible... |
i didn't have a choice in the matter with my insurance company. they automatically listed it as a 4-door and gave the sedan pricing. i didn't complain...
My Jeep cost more to insure around NH then my 8 does.
When I bought my 8, my insurance costs didn't change at all.
It doesn't matter. The RX-8 is still rated higher than most cars because a lot of people crash them. (I worked at an insurance company and saw the grades on them)

Not sure why anyone would be surprised the RX8 is labeled a car with 4 doors.
really?
my insurance (geico) labels my car as a 4 dr coupe sports car...lame |
mine is labled as a 4dr I didn't even have to tell them....
I don't get a choice! They listed it as 2-door. I even tried explaining that it has 4-doors, but the computer system they have automatically assigns via VIN, as someone mentioned before.
State Farm in Louisiana lists the 8 as a 4-door coupe same as a Camry or Elantra.
400 every 6 months for full cover and $100 deduct. |
It is a 4 door coupe. Have you seen the 4 doors?
Does anyone have Allstate? What does Allstate list your RX8 as?
wow i feel so screwed, in Houston im paying $1200 every 6months (19 years old and 1 speeding ticket)...this 1200$ is $200 MORE than than my GT Mustang....reason behind this "rx8's are harder to find parts for" even though mustangs are 2doors with almost 3 times bigger engine....
$1500 here!
Fecking Geico said $3000. |

The insurance companies all use the same compiled data to assess insurance risk on a vehicle. So it doesn't matter what your car is listed as. Just shop around for the best price with the same coverage and service. |
