California also requires two plates. However, the DMV only sent me one. Hey I wasn't going to question it.

I used to live in NY and got pulled over all the time for no front plate..
Now I live in florida where nobody has one. I actually think it had something to do with me moving here. (that and 365 days of SUNSHINE)!!!

My yearly state taxes(property) are $4800. If I move to Mass the income tax alone is %5.5 which at my income is alot of #@$#@ Money. Keep telling yourself NH pays lots of taxes. I moved from NJ which has high income, sales and property tax. I also lived in MN High sales, income, and ok property tax BUT, 10% Beer TAX which in itself is reason to move to Wisconsin.

Ask yourself this, why do you have so much change in your pockets day to day? in NH a $1 bottle of coke is $1 not 1.06 or 1.08. $19.99 is $19.99 not $21.19.

I'll take the Plasma TV in taxes I save every year or maybe buy an RX8 because I can afford the gas.

HAHAHHAHAHAHA.

Jokes aside, I'd love to go without the plate. I took it off when I detailed the car and it looked SOOOO much better. Unlike most cars, there is no evidence that it should even be there once its gone. I love that.

Hi guys, I only recently got my RX8 (1 month this week) here in Ireland and relocating the plate was the first thing I started to look at.

I ended up getting a "universal" license plate mount ("number plate hangar bracket" on ebay - Universal Tail Tidy NEW number plate bracket Motorcycle Quad | eBay ) for motorbikes/quads and installing it today.

I admit it what I did was a little improvised but hopefully the pics can be of some use as an idea for someone to improve on:

Bracket:

High front view:

... and nevermind the background (or the cable ties temporarily holding the underbody shield/guard in place)

I'm kinda glad this thread got resurrected, as I'd like to move my front plate from the OEM location. On my Miata, I moved the plate low and off the the side using a bracket available from the after market. It looks much better there. However, looking at the pictures of the plate moved low and off to the side on the RX-8, I don't think it looks good in that position. In fact, I feel it looks better in the OE position.

However, I'd still like to move it. If I move it down in the center, what air ducting, if any, would the plate be cutting off.

I live in chicago and we are "required" to have front license plates too - but haven't got stopped yet. If anything I have my temp plate that just is about to "expire" and I am going to say to the cop that I have the 2nd plate in my trunk and i am waiting on the bracket from mazda - either way you shouldn't have a problem with it.

You guys are lucky in the sense that your plates are all fair bit smaller than ours. We have 2 sizes here. The long one and the one I posted above. They can be extremely particular over here about font size, character spacing, in addition to the overall plate dimensions

While waiting for the bracket I tried the long plate on the lower grille. Quite liked it however the top grille is for all effects a fake. "All" the air comes from the lower one. The only bit that could allow any air through the top grille is (at least mine was) covered on the inside to block the air (rain?). I have no idea why but I'm sure someone here knows... So do share!

sorry to bump this thread guys...just wanted to ask your opinions/suggestions

i got my 8 last september last year i noticed that i have only the rear license plate thinking that the dealer or the DMV will send me the front plate with the registration. after two weeks i received the registration from DMV but no license plate so i called the dealer and ask the plate they told me that the car was already in my name so there's nothing they can do about it anymore ..... after 90 days hoping that DMV will send the front license plate i got nothing

sorry if i dont know anything about DMV i just migrated here in U.S last 2011 lol

my question now is How can i obtain the front license plate the proper way?

thanks in advance

You will have to bring the one plate you have to DMV, turn it over to purchase a set which will cost you $39.00. They will issue you a new one(you don't get to pick which one) along with the new tags and registration with the corresponding plate number on the registration.

I have only replaced plates twice but haven't asked if DMV could send replacement plate for the front with the same lic. plate number you already have. High probability they will say no, easier for them to just give you a new set rather than do what you'd like
