Launch Colours (colors) - Help
Guys,
In the UK the launch colours are black, Velocity red (new colour for Mazda), tit silver and lighter Silver (forgot the name).
Black will look great clean for 2 minutes before the dust settles. Too much work.
Does anybody have a picture and comparison of the 2 silver colours. I understand that the tit silver is a darker gun metal.
Also, how red is the red? My Mazda dealer in the UK cannot tell me. Again, anybody got a picture? I keep seeing the red in various sites, is this THE launch red?
Need to make a decision.
Thanks,
rael.

Hi rael.
i know what you mean, had the same problem with my dealer.
The best option I have found so far is to look at the US Mazda site at www.mazdausa.com
That website shows the car in various colours, including colours not available in the UK.
The other method that I used was to look at other cars at the dealer in the same colour. When I went there they had an MX-5 in silver and a Mazda6 in titanium grey.
Ended up going for the grey myself, because like you I think black is too hard to keep clean.
Hope this helps.

colors (colours)
Rael,
I cannot vouch for the Titanium Gray Metallic or the Sunlight Silver Metallic, but everyone tells me that the red car I took photos of at the L.A. Auto Show is the production Velocity Red Mica. I certainly hope so 'cause that's what I ordered based on what I saw.
You can check out my photos at: http://members.***.net/tomiata/photo.htm

I was thinking about the grey too, the problem may be the interior light. In the UK there is no choice of interior, just black. I think that a total black interior will seriously limits light and definition.
Only with v red is there a interior option being black or black/red option. Red may be the colour to go with.

Tomiata,
Thanks for the photos of vel red.
However, the red you show is a lot brighter than the red on the MNAO site. I downloaded the press info which has some excellent pictures of a red RX8 but the red is darker and IMHO nicer/ richer.
I was thinking of red only to get the red/ black interior as all black (as offered on the other 3 models) may make the cabin too dark without sufficient definition.
Next year they will bring out the blue I really want!!

The color differences between photos can be attributed as follows:
NAIAS Photos: Shot indoors, under neon lighting, with consumer or prosumer digital cameras (mostly). White balance may be off, and lighting is less than ideal, which affects the color reproduction, as does the camera used. Edit: also, some photos were taken using flash, so that will affect the result also.
Press kit photos: Shot in a variety of environments with professional gear and professional lighting. A lot more time is spent composing and setting up the lighting, shots, etc. White balance should be perfect (because it is a professional job), and color reproduction should be dead-on. These photos show the cars in the best possible conditions.
Media photos: Shot mostly outdoors in sunlight with professional gear. Photographers probably did not have extensive time to compose and set up shots, but as pros they probably got the best shots and color reproduction possible given the conditions.
So, for me I take the press kit photos as depicting the true color and depth, but recognize that they also depict perfect conditions. The media photos depict more how the car will look as I am scooting around town on a sunny day. Perhaps upon closer insepction, the color will resemble the press kit photos, but to the average bystander the media photos is what they will see.

i've been lazy and not downloaded the press kit so i have a question. is there a photo of the car in each color, not photoshopped, but an actual photo and if so can someone post the sunlight silver? and for others the nordic green?

Those are some great pics. I was originally dead set on Titanium even before I saw it. I always wanted a dark grey metalic sports car. Then after it really soaked in that the only colors in leather would be red and black (can't see brown with Titanium) I started to re-think. I know some people like it but I really think that the red interior is too much to go with the Titanium. If only there were silver or even blue leather.
Anyway, my next thought was black with red interior. I've never been much for the bright colors like red or god forbid, yellow. I have to admit though that the more I look at it the more I like the red.
The one photo with the amplifier really shows off the mica. Due to the fact that black gets so dirty and doesn't show off the lines as much I think my mind is made up on the Red now. Along with the red interior it is just too perfect.
Thanks again for the excellent photos.

Thanks for the additional photos ironqqq but again the red seems very bright compared to the press photos. I understand that they have been taken indoors with flash under light etc
I am just not that keen to own a car that sticks out too much in red (I think the rare numbers and great shape will be enough without additional screaming colours).
Also, my dealer suggested that the red would be a bold colour to emphasis the cars lines.
Might just play it safe with tit grey.

I remember the Red car being bright at the autoshows. the pictures from the press kit are darker. You will see some of the reflections and shades appear to be photoshopped and that the sky is overcast. I think part of the brightness is in part from the spot lights at the autoshow. At first glance the paint reminded me of candy apple red, but when I looked more at the car, i saw that is wasn't, it was a lighter shade.
The amplifier picture has no mica. The paint use on the underbody is has no mica and has no clearcoat on it. That bright spot on the amplier are just reflections from the flash or something. I clearly recall looking under the hood and looking in the truck seeing that the paint was NOT shiny with mica.
IMHO, the red color is magnificient, it's the best factory color I've ever seen. It brings out the lines of the car very well, not to mention the paint itself is a class job. When the RX8 comes out, many other ppl will have their body shops spray this color onto their cars.

That's really weird because I had trouble seeing the mica on most of the pictures and when I looked at PICT0740.JPG it really looked like sparkles from metallic in the paint. Wonder what caused the bright specks on the red in that photo.

That would be great because I need to see the differences between the two colors before I order.
Tell me what you thought of the two colors. Give me the differences.
Thanks

Unless red comes up darker than I think this silver will be the colour for me although the black with red inserts are not an option in the UK.
Thanks for the photos, car looks great.
