EU "Lane-Change" Signal feature on foreign models???

I haven't found this anywhere yet, but hopefully some friends from Canada or Across the pond, or down under can help me out...

I'm wondering if there are any 8 models that have the "Lane-Change" feature on their blinkers (Turn Signals)?
If you're not familiar with it, it is common on European vehicles (Audi, VW, BMW, Volvo I believe) where all you do is tap your turn signal in the direction you're changing lanes (not enough for it to stay on) and instead of 1/2 of a blink, it will automatically blink the signal 3 times to let other motorists know your intention while you maintain both hands on the wheel.

I would love to find out if this is on any 8's, or is a simple relay in the steering column I could get. Thanks!

really? you don't have turn signals? maybe I'm reading this wrong...
Do you mean, if you press down on the signal, it stays on without you holding it until you make the turn?

I'm familiar with what you are referring to. It is not limited to overseas models of cars, I know a couple Chevy's that have it, drove a rental Cobalt with it a couple months ago.

AFAIK no RX-8 has this feature.

FWIW: what he is referring to is as simple as he says, when you "tap" the singal stalk, instead of a single intermittent blink, it will automatically blink 3 times. This is wholly seperate from "clicking" the signal stalk at a turn. This is intended to just tap it, for lane change

I've driven a couple of different domestic rentals with this feature and I LOVE it.
I've been thinking about building a circuit that does this. It is pretty simple stuff - just a latch with a fixed trigger duration and a fixed, 3 second or so duty cycle, tied to a relay.

My old car (Volvo) had one of those and it actually is a lot more convenient than it sounds like it would be.

I'd thought about it as well after driving the rental with it. It really is a nice feature. right up there with automatic power windows IMO. But then I though, there's no point in the trouble when the car is being sold..

Then you're a good example of one reason why I want to mount a pellet gun in the grill of a car...

Try that in some areas of the country, or most certainly where I've been living the last year, and you'd quickly end up getting rear ended by another vehicle overtaking you by 40mph or more.

I am a firm believer in passive agressive driving, but that doesnt mean you ignore the general rules and courtesies of the road

Agreed.

It is a nifty feature. After driving a VW for two weeks straight and going back to the Infiniti and RX8, I realized the auto 3 blink mind set stuck for a while .

I never said I was speeding or what. I simply said I drive faster and get outta peoples way. its called learning the traffic.
I do want to mount a gun in my car so I can shoot people who drive under speed limit and texting.

i have no issue with speed. whatsoever. but the egotistical idea that because you are paying better attention and doing the overtaking means you dont need to use your signals is what i would want to run you off the road for

of course I use turn signals, when there are cars around me and I want to move over or make turns.
I dont see why it matters when youre 200 ft behind me and I use signals...

No rx8 that i know of has this this feature.

Not using the turn signals is idiotic. People in front of you may not notice your fast overtake too and change lanes. Go try that, it ain't fun.

Lol i dont think blinkers were really made for us- the drivers, but moreso for them- the other people on the road. Use them and leave it to them to say "i dont see why it matters when you are 200ft in front of me".

because you arent the only badass driving. not everyone(though most) else is is zombie land like you may think. there are occasionally those, like me, that may be 200ft behind you when you look in the mirror, and by the time you float across the line they have their nose in your drivers door and passing you quickly.

jackass

Lol, this just reminded me of my "Oh f*ck" manouevre when i forgot to change lanes while driving your car! How fun was that?

Im pretty sure youre can see people accelerating towards you in your mirrors or not. if you see people coming up fast and you move over in front of them using or not using signal makes you a jackass no difference. learn to ******* drive.
FYI I ******* hate those people having signals on see you going fast coming up and cut you off.
just because you signaled doesnt mean you have the right to cut people off.

honestly I dont mine people not using signals, I do mind people change lanes without looking at the mirror and shoulder checks.

Am I the only one who can pull my left pinky out to hold the signal lever down 1/2 way *So it doesn't click* while still keeping my hands on the wheel? D:

On the topic of the OP - I've never even heard of this feature, I can see why people would think it's handy as hell.

It would be a good module to add, but I am sure they already exist. This was on an audi that I drove that had the blind spot warning indicator on it as well. I am sure you can get something that is already fabricated.

On that note there was a different feature A motorcycle I owned had that was pretty cool. The turn signals would flash 5 times quickly then go solid, and the third brake light would go solid when you touched the brakes. I still have the module and I am thinking about setting it up on my 8 when I get the rear fog light installed. Basically when you turn on the fog light it would be dim, when you hit the brakes it would flash 5 times quickly then go bright solid.

Like MM said it would be such an easy circuit to implement, honestly 3 parts if that and it would run in line with the current blinker relay, just need the latch and an adjustable pulse trigger

I'm sure you're right, but if it were OEM, I would like to go with that. It appears that it is not.

I ride bikes too, and I still HATE any BLINKING brake lights no matter if they're on a car or a bike. But probably more so on a car!!! And even worse, I hate the people that install BLINKING modules for their motorcycle headlights!!! Sorry, just my $.02.

Yeah, but after living in Germany for 3 years and driving a BMW 5 series and an Audi A8 that both had this, I miss it!
