Can someone please tell me what the highlighted part in the pic is called and/or the part number?

Look at the number 66100 in that diagram, part #F15166100 I think that might be it... :icon5::fingersx:

Looking at a 2012 Spirit R to buy. It's got a very stiff brake pedal. It would only move about 1-1.5 inches. Any idea why?

It's probably just got good brakes, My brake pedal doesn't move vary far either with out engaging the brakes. This isn't no 1998 Toyota camry or VW jetta. The brakes work like they are supposed to as soon as you touch them they work

Interesting. I have another Spirit R and I've driven other RX8s. They're not that stiff. They definitely go down about 2 inches.

I've got the same thing in mine. Quite stiff and not the most responsive. Mech said they have 10% life left. :dunno:

Hello again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So my 07 keeps stalling when I slow down and stop at lights etc. My radio stopped working, display and A/C. I did the radio face screws and got back the A/C but no radio or display. I notice my trip in my odometer keeps resetting to 0.0 when I turn on the car after shut off when last used. I pump the brakes 20 times it resets and drives fine but when I turn it off and use the car again the same stalling problem comes back. I think I fried the bose amp and radio so I'm waiting for the metra kit and radio. Where am I getting to? I'm hoping to get the display working and my rx8 will stop reseting. Of course this is speculation but hoping and hope someone can chime in with experience. I ran test on the car and I replaced the crank sensor but I got other codes. Any help will be gladly appreciated!

If the RX8 is happy at higher revs, should I drive it in a gear that keeps the revs up a bit higher? I can poodle along at 40 in 6th and its just kinda ticking over. Would I be better leaving it in 4th or 3rd?? Try and keep the carbon at bay !

hey Judderman, welcome to the club!
Nope, no need to keep the car in a lower gear for normal extended driving. Just know that the car's power band does come alive at the higher revs so when accelerating don't be afraid to let it rev higher than you would in a standard piston motor.
other than the occasional high rev shift, honestly just drive it like a normal car and ENJOY. :cool:

40 in 6th is way too low, you're lugging the engine. Keep it around 3.5k for cruise, a bit higher if you're in constantly varying traffic.
Revs are irrelevant for carbon build up, what you need is load that comes from full-throttle application.

Thanks Jedi54, I did open her up a few times - feels soooooo wrong / odd to let it climb to the red line ! Bottled it at about 7k :)

These cars are made to rev as long as the engine is up to the operating temp. When your coolant and oil temperature are warmed up, feel free to pull up to 9000 RPM. That's what the engine is meant to do.

As for cruising RPM, generally around 3k RPM is fine. I wouldn't dip below 2500 RPM.
