So there is a 2010 available in my area with 15k on it. Considering selling mine to a co worker for a thousand over payoff. Are the oil lines and ignition coils still a problem on these. I've got 4k in side work lined up in the next month plus I'm making an extra hundred dollars a week. Should I purchase it or just repaint mine and get it paid off then boost it

I think the series 2 seem to have a lot fewer issues than series 1 and some low mileage 09s-11s can be had pretty cheap. It might be worth the piece of mind to get a series 2. I'm actually considering doing the same thing myself.

Not entirely sure about the issues you mentioned though. I think the coils used in the series 2 are supposed to be a lot better.

Yeah I had little time to search and find out but I'm going to do my research first. Its been there for two months so I don't see it selling soon. Just trying to see if it'll be worth it. I'm going back to school and just bought a beater truck to drive everyday and if I put down the 4k as a down payment my payments would be the same

The 04 rx8 you have right now don't have the warranty anymore, but when you buy the 2010 rx8, you will have the warranty. Anyway, mine will be paid of next month, and i will no longer have car payments anymore. It feels good without car payments, and you could save that money for future maintenance issues you will have. For me, i am not getting another car for a while. I will keep both cars and just enjoy not having a car payments anymore...

That's what I was thinking too. I'm not gonna drive it much, and after I finish the two years of school I Hagee I can buy something nice. But if I bought that now I wouldn't have to wait to buy something nice. Decisions suck haha

get a BRZ. you've already enjoyed the rotary experience. Time to move on to another car until the RX9 comes out and blows the world away as we know it.

The RX-7 is confirmed? You can equally modify an S2 and the ECU has been cracked already FYI (search Mazdaedit).

OP, I was looking around last weekend and almost pulled the trigger on a 09' Touring as a daily. It was a steal, it was aone owner with 7,000 miles for like 16k. And I found other great deals as well, they are crazy cheap. I actually went as far as getting the pre-approval from USAA, etc.

But after some thought on Sunday I decided to wait for a few months and finish the few things I have left on my current RX-8 and then maybe I will get into another payment. Plus, I really want a CWP GT as a daily and I could only find sports and tourings in CWP.

But if you don't have the means to repair an older RX-8 then a series II with a warranty might be a good idea IF you can get a good deal and manageable car payment.

No where in my area will work on a rotary except the stealership and they are half assed. I keep finding them pretty cheap as well. 16000 with 20k on the clock. I'm just sick of having to buff out the head lights and empty my tail lights cuz my dog ate my new gaskets before I could put them on :-(

I'm thinking about doing that. Getting rid of my '04 for a BRZ, then upgrading to the 7 when it is out, but more than likely the 2nd year of the 7 so we are aware of what all the 1st year new model issues are.

I would agree on this. I drove one and its better than I thought.
I might actually trade in my R3 for a BRZ.

What were your overall thoughts of the test drive? I got a very short 10 min test drive late last year and wasn't able to push the car at all to get a feel for what it can really do. The salesman wouldn't let me go alone! The overall feel was good and I'm sure I could live with the BRZ as a DD. Not sure how to explain it, but the car did seem a tad less glove-like and dialed in as the 8 but for use as a DD it's won't make a hell of a lot of difference. Besides, if I want to replace my '04 8, the BRZ is the only thing similar that is available right now. I wish there were more choices.

the overall experience was pretty good. the car felt very well built no weird rattle and clicks.
I like the lower rpm torque. the shifter is tighter and smoother. the seats are adjustable so I fit pretty good (5'7, R3 Recaros are not height adjustable).
my R3 is very twitchy where the FR-S was very smooth and easy to drive. its just much easier car to live with.
the clutch is pretty nice and linear too unlike the on-off switch on the RX-8.

Anyone that would trade their R3 for a BRZ doesn't really appreciate the truly great handling sports car the RX-8 is. The R3 is probably one of the greatest handling sports cars of all time. The BRZ, to me, just looks like a cheap imitation. I can not fathom why everyone is fawning over it.

To the OP... if you really want a keeper RX-8... then yes, definitely get the 2010. I placed my order for the 2004 in January 2003. It was a fun car. But definitely started having serious issues with it... like engine replaced, starting issues from flooding, all the usual.

After 5 years, the 1st 2009 R3 hit town. I was really skeptical that I needed to trade, so much as just wanting it badly. But I went for it anyway. It was everything I had hoped it would be. No problems up to 35k so far. And the handling is to die for. The 2004 suspension was way too soft, especially after 90 mph or so. The R3 handles as well at 100 mph as it does carving corners at 40. It feels so solid and planted 100+.

In short, I've never regretted trading in the 2004 for the 2009 R3. I'm so glad I have it and am the only owner. Especially since they are no more. And until Mazda comes out with their next real sports car, unless I can trade to a Cayman S or similar, I will never sell it. To me, its handling, perfect driving position and sensation, and fun factor are so great... I'm thinking I'll probably really have to test drive whatever the new Mazda sports/rotary will be before I'd be willing to give up the R3. I almost can't imagine how it could be better.

I finally drove one. It doesn't do anything better than the 8, its just different. But I thought the shifter was crap. The low seats and high dash reminded me of a Camaro lol. Seats were great, oodles of headroom, steering didn't feel quite as natural as our cars. The motor sounds odd. I didn't find the interior cheap at all, and I was expecting to. Love the short clutch stroke and the gas pedal that is way over on the right like it should be--Mazda take note!

Couldn't shake it down with the 250 lb salesman onboard and also couldn't bring myself to wind out an engine with 118 miles on it but I liked the car. If it were for sale 3 yrs ago...
