Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks for Sharing.

Nice setup. What kit is that?

You have a boosted 4 port AT engine?

Cool story and well written.

Question... so, all your **** was in the car while they were towing and changing out the engine? That must have been a little weird.

Thumbs up How much are you boosting? psi...? What's your Target Air Fuel Ratio?

How much were you boosting when it blew? I'm trying to figure out the reliability of this engine while under boost for some people. I just heard a buddy blew his motor recently while accelerating on the freeway on ramp. Also, may I ask who tuned your car?

Thanks, Mark

I have premixed since I bought the car and always changed the oil between 3k-4k miles. I probably should have replaced the spark plugs or at least cleaned them before I took off, but to be honest I was actually going to be ordering a BHR kit once I got settled in AZ.

The last day of driving was definitely really hard on the car. I started in Durango, Colorado which is at a very high altitude in the rockies, it was also snowing very badly the entire time I was coming down the mountains. As I headed into the four corners region I was faced with 40 mile an hour winds and blowing dust along with temps ranging from 20 to 80 degrees. Then, as I headed towards the Grand Canyon all I was doing was going up and down some bigger hills. I did about 600 miles that day with the only breaks being to stop for gas. The engine finally gave up at about 5PM so after about 10 Hours of driving...

Also, on top of everything that happened I had a slow leak in one of my tires which I thought was a valve stem that had froze due to the weather, but when I finally got down to Tucson I had it checked and it ended up being a screw! At least Discount Tire fixed it for free!

i wasn't boosting when it happened.

I have the Zex Nitrous kit and the BHR throttle body spacer. The nitrous kit has (and always has used) the 55HP nozzles. I have heard of others using higher HP nozzles however I believe reliability at those ratings was an issue for them. I have a 4 Port Automatic engine (2004 Model). I hardly ever used the nitrous and I doubt the nitrous contributed to my engine's failure. My engine had 114K miles, and I believe that is actually a longer lifespan than most 4 port engines.

At the time my car was running an OEM tune.

If you are interested in more information about nitrous in an RX8 I would direct specific questions to CRH or EasyE1 (after you search around on the forums of course). :-)
