Just purchased 06 Shinka

Hi All,

I am a proud new owner of a 2006 Copper Red "Shinka" RX8. I purchased it slightly used, with 11k miles on it, for $23k out the door. I have been loving every second of it.

I was well read up on the RX8 before purchasing it so I don't have any major questions, just a small one.

I don't know where I read that the digital speedometer turns from white-on-black during the day to red-on-black at night. Is this only a feature in the 2007 and newer models? I don't see this happening on my 2006. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

RA

all the RX-8s apply to this AFAIK: white on black with out lights on... head lights on = red on black with a deep blue backlighting

EDIT: also, congrats on getting a Shinka, and a good deal! i love mine!

The Digital Speedometer stays white, always. Everything else will turn from white-on-black to Red-on-black.

Thanks I was under the impression that the digital speedometer would also change to red. No problem, just wanted to make sure it was working as it should.

Just thought of another question...on the 2006 AT models, is the engine a 4 port or a 6 port?

Are the 2007s the only ATs that have the 6 port engine?

Hey Ra...............You can switch from a bright white on black background to a really sharp amber on black background for night driving. My 04 has it..............it's a smaller roller like **** to the lower left of the steering wheel just turn it slightly and you will see the colors switch.

Don't worry, AT's are still fast! You also got a Shinka so you still own all!

Nice car! I've still to actually see that colour here in London. Anyhow, good luck with the 8 and remember this forum is the best for all your questions ... and the odd beating.

Congrats on the Shinka...I have the same. As hirev8 mentioned you can change from "daylight" to night mode using the dimmer roller to the left of your wheel next to the DSC button. When rolled all the way up it keeps the dash at day mode so you can run lights in bright daytime fog and such while still being able to see the tach. Roll it a tad down and you'll see a sweet red with blue background dash when you are running with headlights on. Enjoy the new car, you'll love it!

Yep, I've got that figured out. I was talking about the actual digital speedometer changing to red on black...but as a previous poster stated, that always remains white on black, so its OK.

^^^ I'm assuming this statement is correct? TO my knowledge...and I've done some extensive research on this car as an owner of the same, the Copper Red Shinka was onlyavailable in MT....If this car was special ordered, you may very well have a one of a kind.....Or it may have been repainted. THere is a thread somewhere on here that is about vin and production numbers. You might want to PM or email the party that posted it and see if it can be found. I've looked and can't find it, but it lists the 06 Shinka by VIN number..

Not shy...the interior is in mint condition, beautiful!

Just didn't get around to taking any decent shots. They weren't coming too well with the sunlight.

Not true, there are at least 3 other copper red automatics I saw for sale, one very recently on CarMax for $21.9k. I got a hold of the 2006 VIN list for the shinkas and mine was in there, way at the bottom of the list
