Some of you may owe steven888 an apology. I've just checked my Japanese
product brochures for the JDM RX-8, it does not come with the CD as standard.
It is in fact an accessory that must be dealer installed in Japan.

In comparing Steve's photo to the photos in my JDM brochures, his car does not
come with a CD. If it did, it would have the CD slot and the word "[DISC]" on the
far right from where it says "VOL". Sorry friend, looks like you'll have to buy the
CD kit from your local dealer.

The buttons are always there, even if there is no cd player installed. As I said it is not neccesarily standard equipment.

@steven888
You can buy the cd player at your mazda dealer. It costs about 150 euro.

I have heard that the japanese RX8'S that are not equiptted with a CD come with an alternate Geisha blow up singing doll , that also puts a smile on your face everytime you hit redline

Come to think of it this wouldnt be such a bad accessory :D

It's not his falt that the cd slot is tiny. I can bet he took a look and just figured there's the slot, and it has a CD button so cool. Hell, it has navagation, why wouldn't it have a cd player? I am reminded daily that there are so many ******** here.

i also own a used japanese rx8 that didn't come with a cd player. Its all options in Japan. What you are looking at is a blanking faceplate. I am currently putting my 6 disc i bought from Mazda in New Zealand. Once you get those dam connectors off at the back of the stereo its quite easy and just slots in on top of the factory radio. It has all the buttons because it works like a component system.

You also need to get a new face plate which is smaller or do what i did and cut down the blanking plate with a hacksaw and file to finish and it looks as good as the original.

If you do a search on "installing mp3 player" on this site there is a good thread with instructions on how to install either the single cd, mp3 or 6 disc player they all go in the same.

by the way i figured mine had a cd player before i bought it and found out 10 minutes after i signed the deal but **** happens!

anyway you can always add the cd player a lot easier than adding the missing horsepower the complainers go on about. IF your car is the high power or type S as they call it in Japan you have the full 250hp!

I LOVED this thread! Was the highlight of my day. Anyway, just checked my radio and noticed the little "compact disc" symbol below the slot (see pic). Didn't see one in his pic and I don't know anything about a Japanese market 8 but this guy might be correct about not having a CD player.

ROFL... Oh, and: "Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?"
