maybe i'm right on this one. the less you have to shift the faster. our high reving 8's compensate for some lack in HP. that being said, can you potentially smoke someone in perhaps a quarter mile, or from a red light, if you had to shift less. if you start off in first, rev it to 9000 and instead of going to 2nd, go into third from first, wouldn't that shave off a fraction of a second. just a thought, has anyone tried it??

 

No- because our motors make most of their power near the top of the rpm range, shifting from 1st to 3rd would drop you below the sweet spot in the powerband and cost you time. The more you can stay between 7k and 9k rpm, the better. Since we can make it to 60mph in 2nd gear, we already have an advantage in 0-60 runs in that we don't have to make that 3rd shift like many cars do. For the 1/4 mile, I don't think you can quite stretch 3rd gear enough... I think it tops out just above 90, so a final shift into 4th would be required.... I think.
