I just got a 2005 RX8. It is automatic, but i want to start tuning it. What are some cheap things I can do? I have been looking at chips but I have no idea about the credibility behind them. I just need help.

Fortunately I spent quite a bit of time typing up stuff for new owners to read over in this thread. I'm not going to retype it here.

Too much reading? Then be prepared for a broken car, heartache, and frustration. There is a lot to learn about this car, and ignoring it has massive penalties. It doesn't suffer fools very well at all, and will take any chance it can to slap you in the face for ignoring it.

General consensus is that the RX-8 is not very modifiable for more power.

No to actually contribute... Chips are garbage, do not waste your money. You won't get too much more power out of the '8 unless you go FI.

sorry to say but if you want to mod it you should have gotten manual, it has got around 30 more rwhp than the automatic transmission.

if you want real power youll need a turbo. but first starting off id say get a cold air intake, i recommend AEM, and exhaust, i recommend TurboXS. if you want badass exhaust and a good power increase get the truboxs cat-back with the cat-less race pipe and headers.

Monchie, the OP obviously wants to mod. He's not asking for an opinion like that. OP, do some searching around the forums. Personally, the 6MT would have been a better choice as another member pointed out.
Oh, and there are no chips. Those are all crap. If you want to "Tune", get the Cobb AP from MazdaManiac. And get his custom tune. Then get a BHR Ignition, then exhaust, midpipe/high-flow resonator, etc.

Do plugs, coils, wires, intake and tranny swap.
