just got my rx-8

hi guys,

I just picked up my rx-8, it's the second rotary powered vehicle I've owned. (had an FC in college). I was looking for something that handled as close to my s2000 as possible while having 4 doors and the RX-8 was perfect. Thanks to the rebates, I got it cheap!

So far, I dig the car. the stock suspension is a little floaty but I have Penske double adjustable external reservoir 8100 series shocks on my s2000, so I guess that's a tough act to follow. the RX-8 is gonna stay stock...

The s2k is quite a bit faster in a straight line, it's puts down 218 rwhp so far, and it's lighter (about 2700 lbs right now). But, the rx-8 isn't much slower and has a much higher redline... kinda ironic. I like the RX-8's dash a lot more, and the steering is a bit faster in the RX-8. The shifter is longer in the RX-8 but not a huge difference.

Anyway, just saying hi. Hope to see some of the bay area folks out at a track day, I instruct with Unlimited Laps... www.unlimitedlaps.com Anyone coming out to the event on the 4th of Oct?

-kit

You'll actually be able to load people and luggage (at the same time) in the RX-8, and whatever you do, don't mess much with its suspension--sounds like you've got that right already. You'll find out why. Have a gas!

How do you guys feel about the Mazdaspeed suspension? The car feels great most of the time, but over big slow bumps on onramps, I feel like it's a bit floaty.

the gearbox is an easy fix just get a short shifter. i've read that you felt the s2k was faster straightline how much faster do you think it is? I be interested in a more depth comparison

why wouldnt you mess with the suspension? The best mods right now are the suspensions... sways struts and springs are the best bang for the buck and most people would agree with that on this board

Welcome. Check out the protection mods in DIY. I think the best bang for the buck is a lighter flywhell.

hm. well, it is about 3+ car lengths 20-80mph faster. Mine isn't totally stock although the mods aren't worth a whole lot on it. (intake and exhaust)

The s2k put out 218 rwhp stock, I haven't dynod my RX-8 but I'm guessing it's more like 180-190, tops. but, it'd still be close enough to if the rx-8 got the jump, the s2k might not make up the gap until silly speeds.
