I got a call today that my car had arrived in town and i could go pick it up. When I got there the car was filthy. I mean really really bad. It was taking a long time for the guy to move the other cars around so I walked around the car a few times and pulled out pebbles from all over the hood, and trunk, wedged into the tight areas. I was pretty upset. The car had obviously been in some kind of wicked storm.

It had sludge, like oil all over the hood, the car was so black I couldn’t see out the windows at all, like it had been offroaded. When I finally washed it, there were scratches all over the hood, like the car had been sand blasted. The windshield wipers have melted (I think) they are wavy and very flexible and do absolutely nothing now.

What the hell? I don’t have any idea what happened to my car, but he said that they had rough weather in Oklahoma. They aren’t deep, but when I stick my nose down to the paint and look around you can see scratches very clearly. I’m so pissed because I expressed my anger at how bad the car looked and the guy said it was just dirt and would come off when I washed it. While partially true, he probably didn’t know how **** I am about swirl marks and whatnot. Now I’ve already signed the paperwork stating I received the car in good condition. Do you think a good waxing will remove the small scratches all over the car? Help!

 

A good waxing will definately help minimize the appearence of scratches, but realistically i dont think it will make them entirely dissapear. It also depends on what color your car is as to how well you will be able to see them after a thurough waxing.

Anyways, did they have the option to where you could have you car placed on the top rack. If so that might have been somithing you wanted to look into. If it was on the bottom rack you would have had oil drip off from the cars above thus creating the sludge on your hood. Also, while being on the top rack, rocks and pebbles are much less likely to hit your car. But, you live and you learn i guess...have fun with the 8 i wishi i had. FOUR MORE MONTHS DAMMIT!

but really you should complain to the dealership more and make them buff out some of those scratches and tell them u expect a new car to be in MINT condition. ask for some all weather floor mats while ur at it.

Rupes, it sounds like your car was right behind the cab and they were missing a mudflap or two. Could have been the last car on the bottom too. The rear tires can kick up a lot of crap too.

I would claybar and carefully inspect wherever the paint had residue on it. Oil is one thing but if the leakage from above was brake fluid you'll never get the shine back.

 

Thanks for the advice. I guess next time I'll know to request to have the car placed on the top, rather than the bottom. After a wax, the car looks quite a bit better, but I can still see some of the scratches.

Oh well, I guess it's broken in now.

 

That's why you should always pay the extra money to get it shipped in a covered trailer.
