Just a few General questions (4AT to 6AT swap)
I have a 05 rx8, 4 port automatic. Can I in theory put a 6 speed auto transmission from a 06-08 rx8 without any complications? Is the engine the same from 04-08? Or are the 06-08 auto rx8 engines different? Would a 6 speed auto tranny from a 06-08 work with my 05 engine and with the instrument cluster and the sort? I would do a swap for a standard engine and tranny, but I'm a lazy driver most of the time so I'm sticking with an automatic haha. Does anyone have an answer?

While this is AT to MT swap specific, many of the challenges are the same because you would still have to deal with most of these components. The 2004-2005 Automatic transmission equipped RX-8s had a 4 port engine, the 2006+ engines were 6-port. No, you couldn't use any of the same electronics, which will get costly.
