Just bought an RX-8
Hey Everyone,
As the title says I just bought an RX-8, I'm new to the car and the forum. It's a 2004 Velocity Red RX-8 with the touring package with 33,000 miles, I ended up getting it for $11,800. I love the car so far and have been reading alot about it here on the forum, any suggestions for a new RX-8 owner?
Here are some pics:
What do you guys think?

Great price you will enjoy it for years to come. It might be ready for its first major service, plugs, coils, wires, air filter, about $300 parts and an hour of your easy labor.

Welcome and thanks for the pics. Btw, you have a Grand Touring model. The GT model has leather, heated seats, power seats and Bose sound system added to the Touring model.
As other poster said, 30K servicing is due. I'd say new plugs and coils, and synth trans and diff fluid. Find a rotary specialist in you area. A lot cheaper than the dealer.
Also check out the stickies around the site and esp. in Tech forum. Also make sure you have done some homework before asking questions or you'll get flamed and get no help from the regulars.
Where are you?
Lots of newcomers. Those 04's are just getting dirt cheap...

Welcome, I'm pretty new myself, that price is pretty amazing, was it from a private party? You may already know this but never turn off the car cold, you'll flood the engine, check engine oil every 3 fuel stops, they like to eat oil. Oil changes every 3k miles. Other than that manual has everything. Good luck!

Thanks, Yeah I definitely got a great deal on it, beat the dealer up on the price a little bit they had just taken it in on a trade. I also forgot to add I got them to add a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty from mastertech basically same coverage as original factory warranty. I had to search the forum to find out what you meant by clear corners and I can understand why people would recommend them, I think they would look much better. Yeah I'll probably being doing some mods starting with a Cold Air Intake and Exhaust. I'll also be detailing the car within the next couple of weeks just have to order the supplies and there's a few small paint chips I'll be fixing as well.

I'm sure I will I love it already. I'll definitely look into that service and I'll have no problem doing the work myself, Thanks

No problem definitely wouldn't post a thread like this without pics. Thanks for letting me know it's a Grand Touring Model, I just went by what the dealer had told me. I have already searched the forum for a few things, I don't ask questions before doing some research. And I'm located in Tampa, FL.

Good looking ride! I just got mine as well (about a month ago I guess). Mine has 27k miles and I paid 11,900 for mine... but it is a 04 so you probably got a better deal
Anyways, I am wondering why some 8's have the appearance package (like yours), the little side flares towards the rear, small front lip, etc. Mine is a GT as well but does not have them. Was the appearance package just a add on that people could purchase for any model?
Just a question for anyone else reading this.

Thanks for all the responses, Sorry I haven't responded sooner... I haven't been on the computer recently, I've been working a lot I have 16 hrs of overtime this past week. And I was at a concert all day today for like 12 hrs, I went to 97X Next Big Thing, for those of you who don't live near Tampa it's a major show with alot of bands hosted by a local radio station(Check it out: http://97xonline.com/ads/nbt2009.html), It was great! But anyway back to the car loving it more and more, like no other car I've driven the top end is just ridiculous, you hit that point past like 4,000 or 4,500 rpm and it just goes. Not the fastest car I've driven but it's a blast to drive. So to start with mods, like I said before CAI and Exhaust, definitely clear corners like them a lot better, and next would be to add a sub and amp, the bose system is great... just lacking in the bass department. And just to clarify I'm not a fan of the ridiculous systems when the bass over powers the actual music but I just like a decent amount of bass, which the bose system seriously lacks.

So resurrecting my original thread here rather than just start a new one...
I recently installed Tanabe GF210 Lowering Springs, Coils Plugs and Wires, Racing Brake ET500 Pads and did an Oil Change in about 3.5 hours with the help of Skeezer and Hellhammer. Springs were actually a lot easier than some people around here make them seem.
Here are some pics...
Only pic of plug comparison that came out...In the others colors were washed out but all the plugs were in similar condition.
Just for the hell of it, RX-8 wheel on Toyota Tacoma
Done...In this pic you can see a big difference in the rear, but the front took a little while to settle, I'll take some pics of the 8 now and post them so you can see how they settled.
As you can see clear corners were also installed... More mods to come pretty soon... hopefully lol.

let me ask, and i may not be 100% but has been repainted before? because from what i could see.....on top of the black plastic on the rear bumper has red overspray.....i could also have looked at the picture wrong too, i apologize if i was wrong :P

Nope hasn't been repainted it's original and has never been in an accident... I can see why you would say that though... The pic of the rear at the top does kind of look like there's overspray but there's not it's just the color of the paint reflecting on to the white waxy residue left behind by the dealers sloppy detailing.
