Just about to order auto for Manhattan- ALso RX8 on Motorweek?

First a friend mentioned (I think it was Motorweek) a PBS show about cars that prieved the RX8- that will be on next week- he said it was on a track doing incrediibly tight turns.
ANyone have any more info?

Second- I am about to order an titanium RX8 with cloth and only the sport package. My problem is this- I live in Manhattan and 98% of my driving is city traffic. I would love to get the stick- especially since the diescrepancy is so great between the manual HP and auto, but stop and go traffic is killer here (at night things open up)

I currently have a Ford Probe GT 6 clndr Auto that I put a Greddy catback exhaust, K&N conical intake ,and G-force chip into. It definitely helped the HP..... It's now a pretty fast automatic- and a great city car. (and a mazda under the skin)

I'm thinking about some mods for the RX8 if needed.- any thoughts (other than forced induction?)

(I used to have a celica manual and it such a pain in the City- never got best use out it.)

The last gen. RX7 is one of my favorite cars and though I know this will be a big compromise- just the thought of having a great handling car with some of the RX7 heritage/design will be great.
(I also drive very sportingly to make it through lights when I get the opportunity)

Also- with the sport package is the suspension in the auto definitly softer than the manual? That also sucks- except there are lots of potholes here that maybe would be benefitial for a slightly softer suspension.

Also does the aero kits for the sides/front mean that car is more likely to bottom out? I'm not ever sure I like the looks from the pics I have seen. I guess I have to see it in person.

ANy thoughts about the best cloth color options with titanium?

While I sympathize with your problem regarding driving in Manhattan and deciding on an automatic, as I live on Long Island and work in Queens.

However, I plan to use my RX for pleasure, and I definitely prefer the manual box. I'm willing to put up with the inconvenience of the manual for the sheer pleasure on a winding road.

I have been driving an auto box for a few years now and really look forward to the manual once again. I actually try to borrow my friend's Acura, that's falling apart, only to enjoy driving again.
The RX-8 is, after all, a driver's car.

That's not to say that the autobox is bad, it's just not for me. And I'n wary about the performance that the autobox will deliver, especially considering the lower horsepower and revs available.

Good luck in any event. What color are you getting??

well if you mean from Mazda, there is only one cloth available, which can be seen in several pics in the multi media section, just look for any mention of the new pages on the japanese site.
