Intake Manifold
My Engine Lite was going on for periods. I brought it in to the Dealer Monday (2004 RX8). The Service Person called and said I needed a new Intake Manifold which they would Overnite in. It took all day Tuesday to replace 7 Hrs. labor they showed me the Warranty Bill it must have Totaled over $2,500.00 thank God for the Warranty. I asked why they had to replace the whole Intake Manifold and they explained the Intake is designed with some sort of an actuator being integrally a part of the manifold. Since you can't change out the Actuator you must replace the whole Manifold?? Does this sound right?? I also had my Front Brakes replaced the Car is a 6 Speed with 33,000 Miles and just 3 Years old

I've heard of a lot of people having their manifold replaced recently. I haven't specifically looked into this actuator inside the manifold, but I imagine it's much like the one in the Mazdaspeed Protege. It's like a secondary throttle body, or something, for more top end when its open.
Can't replace it? Right!

I had my intake manifold replaced at 54,000 miles at $1300 and some odd dollars only to have Mazda reimburse me when they extended my warranty to 70,000 miles. I went from very angry to very happy.
It happened after I came back from my 2 1/2 week honeymoon. I drove the car for 1 day and the next morning on popped my engine light. I think it had something to do with the car sitting for some time. The dealer told me things had gummed up. I still don't see why a car with only 54,000 miles should have such an expensive part be replaced.
My problem with my 8 is that too many parts fail and need replacing att too much money, and that the dealers are looking to make loads of money off of us 8 owners at the expense of Mazdas rep. Everythings replace thses days, nothing's cleaned or repaired.
I just recently had a bulb changed in my headlight outside of Mazda service. I know for a fact that if I had went to Mazda service they would have told me that I need a whole new headlight assembly because it comes as one piece. That's how they look to make money off of us. Probably would have cost me over $200 bucks. The bulb was like a couple bucks.

I just had to have my intake manifold replaced and my 04 8 is at about 29K. I was on a 400 mile drive when my check engine light came on. The dealer took two days to replace mine though. Enterprise gave me a PT Cruiser for a loaner. All I can say is that is an insult when you drive an 8!

Yeah, my back taillight fogged up and I am outside the cosmetic / accessories warranty they say....
They want $250 + install for the back left tail light....
no the tail light is covered. ^
yes they always replace the whole manifold for this issue if it arises because it is quicker than tearing it apart putting a new actuator in and then reinstalling.
