installing Turbo on rx8

I'd rather be
1. shot and killed
2. Road raged and killed
3. shot in the ass by Dick Cheney
4. lost on an Island
5. starve for 2 days
6. Harass random people on the forum
7. chat randomly on AIM
8. buy a civic
9. buy a used FC
10. buy a house
11. kill random people
12. ask John to do it

/end Rant

my hands are all messed up, my head has fuel everywhere

and this all just for installing the new injectors, which by the way turned my car from an already very loud car into a "Hey cops within 50 miles radius, pls come catch this moron who also now has a leaking fuel line" (no worries, one of the internal fitting for the quick connector on the outer fuel line is unfortunately loss, I'll use the one from the emission line, cus who the hell cares about the emission anyways, I have a fucking midpipe.....but I'll do that tomorrow, I am tired and fucking exhausted (I blame the office job)

I know, thread useless without pics, I'll upload them tmr

you're installing it all yourself?... careful with your fuel lines... we lost a guy to that from the NO2 group.

Brettus 07-16-2008 02:17 AM

Taj - good on you for doing this . I await your results with eager anticipation .

Be carefull ;)

Transam kid 01 07-16-2008 02:29 AM

No LS1 no care

heh, gl with the install. Which set up?

Raptor2k 07-16-2008 02:48 AM

Don't die. Your comic relief on this forum cannot be lost.

It took approx 3 hours to completely uninstall mine the other day. That's the turbo, all piping, electronics, and reinstall stock manifold, cat, etc. There really isn't much to a turbo kit besides installing the new manifold and wiggling the turbo into place.

But you arent taj.

dozer 07-16-2008 11:14 AM

^no You Dont!!!!! Trust Me!

dozer 07-16-2008 11:15 AM

i think you should go with #12!!

tajabaho1 07-16-2008 12:16 PM

the turbo it's self shouldn't be that difficult

but since I went with the almightly and retardedly hard to install Mazsport turbo, I gotta pretty much take apart the entire engine to install the injectors and APV valve (which I'm not by the way) and now I have a fuel leak again, cus I uninstalled the Nitrous, so now there's a huge gaping hole in my fuel line (that I put a screw in) and it's still leaking above 30 PSI, so WooT! time to get that 200 PSI silicone Fuel line steel braided!!!

here the pics:

the huge pain that I will be struggling with today:

wish me luck, at least my car ran home from my uncle's shop (which everyone was laughing at me the entire time I did my install T.T) with the bigger injectors and a 20 PSI fuel leak......I gotta say, this car is a tank :)

imrtommy 07-16-2008 12:41 PM

nice! keep up the good work taj. let me know if you need anything/short anything. will do my best to help. and give me a ride once youve finished

unlike OJ, taj doesnt want to risk leaving evidence behind after murdering his S.O.

tajabaho1 07-16-2008 12:45 PM

^ I did :D if not I'd be dead

tajabaho1 07-16-2008 06:43 PM

Woot! the retainer for the fuel pump never came

thanks alot mazmart! you ended up being the delayer (instead of mazsport, which I was dreading)

sigh, I'll have to put them in tmr then

btw, my car is still running, even with the bigger injectors

it just stalls when coming to a stop from anywhere higher than 4k rpm though :(

well hope i get everything done by this week end >.<

05rex8 07-16-2008 07:09 PM

fail

tajabaho1 07-16-2008 07:11 PM

it's all sheldon @ mazmart's fault!

lol

I know it was gonna happen but hey, at least it runs........2 more days till turbo is done!

05rex8 07-16-2008 07:17 PM

Yeah, I know, just kidding.

What made you get the mazsport turbo? Availability?

--Jonathan

tajabaho1 07-16-2008 07:19 PM

yea, availability

Schimmle 07-16-2008 07:25 PM

and what is your view on the Mazsport Turbo kit? Which kit did you get?

05rex8 07-16-2008 07:25 PM

I almost did the same thing as you. Still getting the MM/BHR kit tho after some research. I just gotta be patient with it being released, and thats the hard part.

--Jonathan

tajabaho1 07-16-2008 07:29 PM

I got the type 1 Kit, I bought it used from ImrTommy

Scott and Sarah have been very kind to me (well, not in a financial way) but they do help me out with everything I need including some parts that weren't there when I bought it

the turbo looks a bit huge to be honest, I don't know if it would fit if I don't put on the mazsport motor mount, which from what Tommy tells me, makes your car feel like an integra.......so I definitly will not put that on......

05rex8 07-16-2008 07:47 PM

I had some concerns about the turbo size myself. Not saying it's not a nice kit--because it is...I just felt it wasn't the right one for me and my quick spool, low psi, high hp/tq needs. :)

--Jonathan

05rex8 07-16-2008 07:54 PM

Dang it, why's this in the lounge?! No free posts for me I guess.

Brettus 07-16-2008 08:22 PM

perhaps taj did the install in his lounge :dunno:

tajabaho1 07-16-2008 09:33 PM

yes, the turbo size is huge, it's for peak hp and peak hp only is my guess, from what Tommy told me, it's gonna need MM or Scott or Ray to make this thing remotely fast down low, but as off now, full spool @ 5k rpm...... down shifting I guess

but hey, thats actually good for daily driving

Atilla 07-16-2008 09:59 PM

blah blah blah -

scribed because some where along the lines i'm gonna participate in getting this thing rolling around california...:)

05rex8 07-16-2008 11:34 PM

Taj, is your car an auto or MT?

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 12:11 AM

Manual transmission

Brettus 07-17-2008 12:31 AM

you going AP or int x for tuning ?

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 12:34 AM

most likely the INT-X, since I heard somewhere that the type 1 doesn't work very well with MAF tuning and uses MAP......(correct me if I'm wrong)

I might buy 1 from jeff and ask him to tune it for me when I head out to AZ though

Brettus 07-17-2008 12:44 AM

I have a brand new int x for sale (cheap) if you want one

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 12:45 AM

I already have one dummy :D

When are you coming to AZ Taj?
Don't try to avoid me. I'll hunt you down. :)

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 01:41 AM

as soon as Ray gets shop up I guess, since no one around here can do tune

MazdaManiac 07-17-2008 01:51 AM

The AP will work with the kit just fine.
Its the backwards injector install (which you just did) that screws it up.
If you still have the injectors out, put the two red ones back in the primary spot (on the housing by themselves) and then put the next biggest where you have the red ones in the picture.
Put the biggest injectors in the P2 (outside of the 4 injector rail).
Use this thread for reference if needed:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/fuel-injector-info-150432/

Doing it this way will make it run almost normally with no engine management at all, as long as you stay out of the throttle and drive smoothly.

YaXMaNGTO 07-17-2008 02:01 AM

Stay at it taj!!! I'm rootin' for ya!!! you crazy numbnut :banghead:

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 02:10 AM

but, this is what mazsport says to do in their manual........ no joke........
http://i33.tinypic.com/6ehtex.jpg

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 02:18 AM

^ as you can see, I definitly am about 95% on cue with the picture

the other 5% being mine is way dirtier

MazdaManiac 07-17-2008 02:18 AM

I know what they say. Why do you think I'm telling you NOT to do that?

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 02:22 AM

well thanks for telling me AFTER I put them IN!!!, omfg if I have to re open the manifold and everything, I might as well just commit suicide

MazdaManiac 07-17-2008 02:37 AM

The way Scott has them in the diagram works (basically) with the way he stages stuff in the Int-X.
The "normal" way (which I described above) will work with ANY engine management and is a better way to do it if you like your car to idle and transition properly - especially while you have no engine management.

I know you are kinda new to this stuff, but you will get faster at it.
I can usually do an injector swap in about 2 hours with breaks and no injuries.

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 02:43 AM

well then I guess I'll let you do it when I get to AZ, and then you can tune it too :)

where do I make appointment?

MazdaManiac 07-17-2008 03:02 AM

Why don't you take a trip up to Oakland on the 2nd of August and take part in the dyno day?

tajabaho1 07-17-2008 03:04 AM

because I dont have money on 2nd of august....
