While thumbing through and studying my Owners Manual, I noticed the diagram for the 'Information Display' (p 6-40) shows TWO A/C settings (ECO & AUTO) and a 'fan speed' display. Neither of these shows as a display on my '8'. Are other owners 'missing' these displays?

 

This happens a lot with mass produced electronics. The display in question might be used by several manufacturer, on many different applications (don't be surprised to see the same display on another car brand or electronic appliance) where they actually use a different set of functions from the display.

When Mazda was evaluating displays, they probably saw the one we all have as the most appropriate (cheaper in most cases). And they decided to use only the features we see on ours.

This doesn't mean we are missing features. It means that the display has the capability of displaying much more data than what we have in use.

Does it make sense?

 

All US-market RX-8's are "missing" those displays because we only get the manual HVAC controls. Those segments are used in countries that get automatic climate control.
