@Silvrrx8: I dunno. I've read a lot of threads where some people get all crazy like for no apparent reason... I guess it's just something that happens.

Of course a lot of us would want to say "No!!! Don't trade your 8 in!" because it really is a great car; not the fastest in a straight line, and sure that'd be great, but I'll take a fast corner any day over a fast line, way more fun... You're age is irrelevant (I'm 19 ), just as long as you're not stupid with it, it's just unfortunate that stupidity and young age are usual companions. But if you are really having that many problems then of course, logically, it makes sense, buy something that's more reliable (like another 8 ;D) and if possible, something that suits your tastes more (like an R3 ;D), bottom line is get something that you're comfortable in for whatever price it is that you pay, and that works in an acceptable and decent manner. And that's something that I think everyone here can totally agree with.

theres a lot to learn when comes to RX8, maybe a piston engine is more suitable for you.

 

yes coils and plugs replaced im glad there are some supportive people here.
i think i better get a piston engine also. i also dont understand why a fleet car automatically means that the car was abused. how does anyone know that truly?

 

try going back to your mazda dealerships and check if you have the latest ecu flash for your engines computer from what i heard the models before 06 had really bad flashes. since mine is a 07 im pretty good. you should check that out...

 

TBH, you got that car after quite a long time, so that's a lot of "Whoops" that the previous owner could do. Revving too high before fully warmed up, late oil changes, etc. All of that could add up to when you got the car, you're faced with the responsibilities of fixing it. The issue of buying used, unfortunately.

The way I view it is if you fix everything on the car it's like you bought it brand new compared to spending even more money on another car with hidden problems, and with only you doing what you do to the car and not someone else. Mine was a fleet car and I have over 101k with no problems, and it runs like a gem. If I had problems so be it, and I would just get them fixed and go on with my baby. You gotta go read some of the media threads in here, and think about it, but your opinion is your opinion.

The only company I have ever known to maintain there fleet well was the Army and I still did my best to beat the **** out of my Humvee. Just saying any company I have ever worked for has always been way out on there service needs like 6 to 8 grand over oil changes

I had a RX3 in 1973, drove it like every block was a race, and engine lasted 75,000miles.

My 2007 RX8 is an amazing technological design. I track (don't tell Mazda USA) 3 times a year with 20,000 miles on it, and it's never needed to go to the stealership. The stock brake pads are still over 50%, and all I maintain is change the mo every 5,000 miles.

All cars can have defect that sends it to dealer. Always buy new unless you're mechanical, and trade again if you have electrical trouble that nobody can figure out. Smart people live cheap!

 

what companies have fleet RX-8's? Every one I've seen doesn't, and in my downtime between cars I'm renting one almost every other weekend.

hertz ran a limited run on RX8 in 04

 

I bought an 04 8 in 08 and within 2 months had the clutch completely disagree with my right foot and leave me stranded in Naples. IMHO I think that you need to slow down with the car and do the repairs yourself, It will give you a sense of pride and alleviate any harsh feelings you have towards her. If you get lost on something that you are doing with the car I am sure that there are plenty of knowledgeable people on this forum that will gladly help you as far as they can. With that being said don't be afraid to post and ask some questions if you need help.

Plenty of cars have tons of issues. Good luck on whatever car you pick next. as if you buy used, it will always have some sort of problem, just depends how fast you figure it out.

just think of all those people who bout RX8's used after the owner beat it took off all the Mods including the turbo and then tradeded it in.

 

Those of us who regularly rent cars, especially for business, know how we and our colleagues treat rentals. That's something we truly know, and I for one would never buy a former rental car.

Something we don't truly know but a lot of us believe is that rental companies do zero maintenance on their fleet. You can do zero maintance (not even oil changes) on a new car and it will be fine for several years. Rental cars are kept for one year.

Interesting that Hertz had RX-8s in their fleet. I would have thought they had learned their lesson with the Shelby Mustangs back in the 60s.

I am currently renting a Ford Fusion and doing my best to beat the shi!t out of it. Its just not possible to get as much fun out of that thing as I get from my RX8. Im sure as hell trying though.

 

As far as your first post goes... I think I understand your frustration but I have to agree with the forum members that it could have been articulated in a different manner. You weighed in the consequences much too heavily without looking back on your actions/choices/decisions that possibly had a lot to do with the bad results/experience you had with your 8.

Like you said, there is no guarantee that every used car is abused and treated like crap but as the forum members stated above.. there is a high chance they were mistreated especially in the case of fleet vehicles. Take what you learn from your experiences and apply them in your future and try not to make the same mistakes for your next car.

I'm not gonna lie, if used rx-8 weren't such bargains, I would've bought my 8 new.

It's always nice to not have to worry about what the previous owner(s) did, or more importantly, didn't do.

 

Evidently not, considering that they brought back the Shelby 'Stangs in 2006.

By the way, that reminds me, if anyone is ever in the market for one of these Hertz Shelby's.....avoid serial # 06H211, because for a long weekend in November 2006, I beat the living hell out of that one!!

 

I think you may be over reacting a bit..he's just stating he's trading it in. He didn't bash the car in the title..and he simply named the problems he's had with the car. Although it is a fleet car which is probably the problem in the first place, I see no wrong in what the kid did. (I'm 19 btw)
