I'm sure she was a nice lady!

I'm driving down the road in front of our local mall when a red RX-8 merges into traffic from the interstate. The traffic is stop and go in evening rush hour for a couple miles. This lady ignores the fact that a silver RX-8 is right next to her even with my hand waving and repeated non-confrontational gestures. I guess she thought I was an idiot or a pervert or something. I guess this reinforces what someone else said on line that not everyone really knows what they are driving or really cares.

Being ignored was bad enough but this car had not been washed in what appeared to be months! The front wheels were solid black from break dust. It's not like we haven't had nice weather or anything to bath the poor mistreated baby. She might as well have been driving a clunker. It broke my heart. Kind of like seeing someone in the grocery store mistreating their kid.

I need a beer!

Thankfully, I haven't had to experience the horror that you've described. However, the Mrs. reported back immediately upon seeing an abused black 8. It was described as filthy, this is coming from a woman that has driven a company car for nearly 20 years, my wife knows filthy cars! I was told that the largest transgression was the driver was smoking inside with the windows up I guess we're not all addled in the brain over our 8's.

i typically see an 8 on the road about once a week...not one has ever waved back

and today, when i was driving to lunch, there was a nordic green 8 stopped in a left turn lane with its hazards on and the driver was nowhere to be found.

Houston 8's tend to wave back... I was driving down Richmond last night and a Black 8 waved at me before I realized he was next to me, I guess it's that southern hospitality.

For the most part the Calgary 8's are good about waving back. There are the odd 50 year old women drivers around that have no clue.

For the most part, when I'm driving my 8,
I'm either enjoying the sound of my engine or I have my stereo cranked up....
I'm not really aware of the other "types" of vehicles on the road.
I'm not looking for other 8's because, frankly, there are only 2 or 3 others in my town of 60K.
On the rare occasion that I do see another 8, its usually too late to give them my thumbs-up because they are flying past me in the other direction.
Does this make me stuck-up or a snob? I hope not.
As for the cleanliness (or lack of), not all 8 owners are alike.
I'm sure the Toyota 4x4 enthusiasts have a fit when they see my dirty 4Runner...
Perhaps her "other" car is a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, the 8 might be 'her POS'.
(I know, blasphemy!)

I got behind a silver 8 yesterday and the guy waved to me as he was pulling out in front of me and as he was turning off. I kinda followed him to see if I knew him from the GA RX8 Club but I never was able to get right up next to him. First time someone has waved like that to me while in my 8. Reminds me of when I take my 65 Mustang or motorcycle out for a spin and I pass one or the other, everyone seems to wave that has the same or like vehicle.

Driving the other day and had a Silver 8 wave to me before he made a right turn in Columbia, Maryland. I don't hesitate to wave to an 8 drive as long as you see them looking in your direction.

While my 8 was in the shop, they obviously left it outside. I didn't get a chance to wash it on my way home yesterday. My hubby comes home after having just washed his Magnum and I was jealous. I said "Oh good. Kids are in bed stay here" and jetted to wash mine. He called me competitive! :D

My black 8 is impossible to keep clean in our heated garage (fine, gray dust..), with a trip across downtown to work. if its not raining, I get sprayed by the water that falls off the new elevated hiway that they are building. ug

I wash my car 2-3 times a week IN the dusty garage, that turns out to be abotu $35-40 a month JUST for the mr-clean refills. AHH!

THing is, after 3 days, any one of you would be disgusted by the filth on my car... just like I am... (justifying the cost...)

(at least I can keep the exhaust pipes shiney, washing those every couple days with soap and water does that for ya ;-) )

Since I've been stuck on a weird watch schedule I haven't had a chance to wash my car so if you run into a dirty winning blue on the 15 or the 5 freeway that's why. :p Once I get back to a normal schedule she'll be squeaky clean again. As for replying to a wave I ether wave or I flash the fogs. Although its strange I get more replies to my waves when I'm in the fd then I do with the 8.

Yeah, i usually wash my car 1-2 times a week and it still seems dirty to me after the 2nd day. I've been busy so it's been over a week now and I desparately need to wash it!

Most 8's here don't wave, though I have only seen maybe 5-6 in my town of over 100k, but saw a blue one (sharp color) last week in a parking lot and we exchanged waves and checked each others cars out, it was kinda funny.

Not to bash on present company, but I've noticed that most of the RX8 owners around me don't know what they've got. I try to go out of my way to either wave or flip my lights everytime I see an RX8 (along with Miatas and RX7s of course) and to date I actually get more acknowlegement from Miata drivers than RX8s and RX7s combined.

Strange.

I won't stop waving though Hopefully soon we'll have our own 8 to park next to the 7, and I'll be able to test out wether or not the 8 owners in my area at least know their own car!

Its not that bad here, I have run into the occasional rotor noobie who thinks he has a piston engine or doesn't exactly know what makes his car special. I try to talk to them and get them to get to know their inner rotory geek. What ever I don't know I tell them to check on here or the rx7 club. Over all its the younger owners who don't know and bought it because it looked cool and made sweet sound.

Horrors of a dirty 8
A lot of people will buy the car, not knowing what they have. And this may be the cause for them trading it in.
