Replicas? No...but an uncanny (non-existant) familial resemblance (although Ford did make a bid for Ferrari back in the '60s...hence the GT40 project)? I think so. Then again, I also think the new Tiburon bears a resemblance to the past 456M....not bad for $18K

Same here. I actually think the profile of the 8 is much cleaner than the 612...but I'd still take the Ferrari if someone gave it to me. Of course, then I could trade it in, get an 8 and...well...a lot of other things. :D

Yes, I have thought they had similar looks as well.
I like the RX-8 lines more, especially the more distinct front wheel and light areas.
There was a post earlier about a policeman, who was looking for a Ferrari, pulling over an RX-8.

Nice. I'm not into Ferraris and other exotic (too expensive) cars, so this is my first time to see that pic. No wonder my uncle kept mentioning the Ferrari when he saw my RX-8. He even took a pic of my car at a certain angle, showed it to me, and said there's so much resemblance to the Ferrari.
I thought "Enzo?" yuck!

But I do like to look at Ferraris when I'm at the auto show ... or in the car mags

A policeman looking for a Ferrari? How much money is he making? I must be in the wrong line of work.

I don't think he was saying that the policeman was looking to buy a Ferrari. He was "looking" for a Ferrari that was [apparently] speeding and pulled over an RX-8. Woops!

hahah, ya, no kiddin'
umm..hello?
Wow, love is really blind.... to think the RX-8 has better lines than the Ferrari. Give me a break. If it were an even trade, I'd take the Ferrari any day. Even with the monthly trip to the dealer to keep the thing running... it's worth it.
Note the wheel design on that Chevy too. The flared spokes are even similar to the 8's stockers. The reason I posted that image is because of the fact that when that car made the cover of a mag, I had to do a double-take as I really thought it was the 8 at first.

The only remotely similar parts on the Ferrari and RX-8 is the pikachu smiling grill shape. If you look into Ferrari history, however, you'll notice Ferrari had designs like that on their cars for the last 4 decades, where as Mazda only the last 15 years.
On a side note, I want to get a Ferrari GT in the future, but those puny headlights on the 612 simply don't do it for me.

The comparison to the Ferrari is interesting, especially when you consider that the RX-8 Program Manager has openly stated that they were more influenced by Italian design than German. The similarity to the 612 is certainly evident, although I must say that I find the Ferrari cleaner than the RX-8. I do like the headlights better on the RX-8, but I find the Mazda's design to be busier overall.

P.S. I'm not a big fan of the 612's lights either.
