I'm set on the RX-8

Hey guys, I am about to purchase a car, and I'm pretty much set on the RX-8. There are a few options out there and I was wondering if you could lend your input as to which car you think to be the best deal. The first two are from a dealer, if that might sway anyones decision. I personally like the blue color alot, but it's hard not to like the RX-8, regardless of color.

The first car is a 2006 Blue RX-8. This is the only one I've seen in this color. I heard there were problems with earlier RX-8 models, so I guess most of these were addressed by 2006.
-2006, 6speed
-$16,977
-34k miles
-Blue exterior, Black/Gray cloth interior
-Pretty much basic stuff I think
[IMG][/IMG]

The second car I'm looking at is also a 2006, But is the dark grey color( don't know the official color name).
-2006, 6speed
-$17,588
-18k miles
-Dark grey exterior, Black/Gray cloth interior
-Basic also
[IMG][/IMG]

Another I was looking at is a 2005 Silver RX-8
-2005, 6speed
-$16,000
-24k miles
-Silver exterior, Black/Gray cloth interior
-Basic Package

Thanks in advance for the help.

I say car number 2. Its an 06, newer then #3.it has the least miles, and not much more expensive than the others. 5000 Miles is a lot when you think about it.

I'd go look at all fo them. Bring prinouts of all of them to each, and see where each dealer will go. Assuming all cars are in true, full on retail condition, and If Numbers are close to equal, as in where they are now, the middle car seems like the winner if you ask me.

they all seem basically the same 'cept for color. i think the first one is phantam blue. get that one, it's a nice color and you're covered up to 100k miles for warranty anyway. you can probably talk down the price some more, too

I'd go with the Silver with the info you've provided. Mileage is more important than year since the lower mileage car may have been stored during winters. If you like the blue better then get that.

If you're looking for more info on them get the vins on them all and check to see which ones have had their recalls processed. Just log them into Mazdausa.com to see or visit a local Mazda dealer and explain what you're doing.

The ones who have had their recalls processed probably had better owners. Not a sure thing but it's a good indicator that it was serviced regularly.

Just for the engine and core components. He'll still be covered under the other two warranties with all three cars but only up to... crap... well he can search for 'em.

1 first, 2 second. Maybe try to get the price down on 1 due to miles comparatively?

Thanks for all the replies. I really will be happy with 1 or 2. I do have a few more questions...
Does anyone know the info on how the extended warranty Mazda started applies? Will it apply to any RX-8 or do they have to certified pre owned or what have you?
Also, I'm aware of the RX-8's oil hungry personality, and I'll admit I'm not even sure how to change oil. I just drop the car off and let a shop do it. If I have to check the oil every other time I fill up, is it an easy thing to do, and do I just pour in oil as needed until the usual oil change, tire rotation appointment?

The 100k mile warranty applies to only the engine core and is not bumper to bumper. It should transfer to you when you purchase the car (especially if purchasing from a dealer). You can probably call any Mazda dealer and have them run the VIN to make sure the previous owner didnt have anything that would of canceled the warranty (like FI or some other mod).

As far as the oil, it just depends. I've come to find out when I make long trips it requires attention to the oil much faster. Owners manual suggests oil changes ever 7k miles if i'm not mistaken but any place you take it in for oil changes you'll have them suggest it at 3k. I get mine done every 3-4k miles or so. Do a forum search on what oils to use and more info on where/when to get it done.

Gas consumption however, is a whoooole different story.

Happy shopping

Winning Blue! Winning Blue! Dammit, Mazda, why'd you discontinue the prettiest colors? Phantom Blue was not the answer!

Sounds like you've done your homework. So remember: the car isn't a rocket. the gas mileage sucks. the resale value is pitiful. but when you're behind the wheel, you'll magically forget all that.

Whichever you choose, enjoy your car!

Also, what were the problems besides engine flooding that were associated with pre-2006 models?

There is an FAQ section that have a ton of useful information on the RX8 and is a good read for someone new.
This will also be a nice start for you:

The blue one because you want to be noticed not blend in with the other cars or you might as well have bought a sonata.

Grey one in the middle is a little more money but low miles. I'd go with that one assuming the interior/exterior is mint. Try to talk the dealer down a little. Your fortunate that you have three decent options. Good luck and just outta curiosity what area are you shopping in?

I'm shopping in the metro atlanta area. There are actually alot of RX-8's for sale. There are atleast five cars like each one of these. Just different colors, pretty much the same cars.

Get the blue one, you should talk them down to less than 16k. And blue is the best color out of the three you have listed. Personally, i think you should get a black or white one. They are sexy!
