Should I get an RX-8? I am only 18 but I live in the country so the chance of having an accident is kinda low. I would be getting the car on a loan so I would have some good insurance on it. I already read the new owners guide thread, I love the RX-8....when I was in one it was like being on cloud 9. But if by some odd chance everything happened to break at once, I couldn't afford to repair it....so should I get one?

 

If you can not afford to maintain the car, it's probably not a good idea to purchase it. Just my .02

 

Sure. You're young enough to recover from a disaster...should one actually occur. Which is better than being known as the wimp who bought a Honda because it was low risk.

Well, this is where you, as an owner, have to take certain steps in order to prevent yourself from having a car that might fall apart all at once.

First off, you have to find a car in good shape.
Pay money for a pre purchase inspection.

Then, if you don't have maintenance records for the vehicle, contact Mazda to see if the engine was ever replaced under the extended warranty. Buy ignition coils, plugs and wires right away. If the battery and starter are weak, replace them. Have the compression tested BEFORE buying the car.

Then, as you own the car, replace parts that break or wear out, before they cause problems. If there's a CEL, get over to an auto parts store, and get the code read. Research the code for common causes, and fix it.

Ultimately, its up to you to not have a car that falls apart.

Well I got my 8 when I had just turned 20 and had owned 2 cars previously. Like Bladecutter said, if you get a 8 in good condition and stay on top of maintenance, and are willing to read and learn about your car... Then I don't see why you wouldn't be ready for it.

Just make sure you don't make the same mistake I did, which when I was searching for an 8 it was pretty tough to come by one that looked good and I started getting desperate... So I kind of jumped into one without looking any further. Unfortunately for me, there was a lot I had to invest in to the car for maintenance. But I've learned from that, as you would if you make any mistakes... Hopefully lol!

 

You said it..."I couldn't afford to repair it"...then your not ready for the obligation. Get a different car for sake.

 

I'm sure like the others say If you can't afford it don't get it. As for the bank loan if they offer warranty themselves in case something happens if anything. My advice would be to dish out the extra money for the warranty I did on my 8 incase anything happens, engine breaks etc. I've been blessed so far that my 8 hasn't given me any problems and owned mine for a month but it's due for an oil change and next year the replacement of spark plugs, coils etc. reaching 30,000 miles.

In the end look at your finances first before purchasing your 8 and think about the future of this car, you have to maintain it, keep it healthy and take good care of her. It's like a hot celebrity girl you dreamed of your whole life, you have to keep her in high maintenance lol (overboard I know). But the whole point to what I'm saying think it threw, check your finances, see if your bank offers warranty (if so BUY IT!!). All of us here have our 2 cents but in the end it's up to you.

Well if your bank doesn't then if you do buy your 8, usually in about a month, for me the dealership from where I bought my 8 from along with others will send you letters in the mail that offer warranty for your 8 under there rates. So you pretty much will have mail come in that offer warranties but it's up to you rather to give them a call and compare rates, or just go online and see what others offer. You can contact your auto insurance company and see what rates they offer if they do have warranty available. Bro it's all about doing some research and finding what works best for you
