ON Ignition coils - general

Need to know some info on types that are recommended re: OEM or others. Ebay seem to have a number of diffrent makes and I'm confused.
Some say OEM - others aftermarket.
Thanks.

I bought the cheapest ones online from advanced auto parts. They worked great. They were intermotor ones. Low end torque spiced right up. If you look around you may be able to get a good deal on a set of plugs/wires/coils together, but to be honest I'd just go with advanced auto parts.

Another reason I recommend this is because, if this is your 1st time replacing them, your gonna be new at it, and the first time I tried replacing mine, I actually broke one. I brought the top right off of it because my spark plug wires were so snug. My point being if its your first time, dont risk injuring expensive goods. Throw a reasonably priced set in (advanced auto was like 27.00 each), and get the experience/feel for how they go in, and once you think you need more, maybe give in to the hype of the racing quality parts.

@jamesf
You broke the top off the Coil or the Spark Plug???

Plugs can be a bit more sensitive (meaning fragile), that's why I'm bringing spares to the Spring meet.

But breaking the coil top off .. .wow .. just wow that coil was screwed way before you touched it.

Nah it was the ignition coil =/. I got new NGK spark plug wires, and they were SUPER snug compared to the stock ones on there. I made a mistake on placement so I had to remove the boot off of a coil, and when I did it was so tight I really had to apply some force and the top just popped right off

Freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw

My guess

Oh and what is that vacuum line doing laying on your coils.

It looks like the one way check valve to the accumulator for the SSV, VDI and Air Pump

It should be plugged in to the accumulator at the back of the UIM.

It controls the SSV, VDI and Air Pump so its rather important.

The Green/White plastic piece is a check valve.
The arrow should point towards the UIM side for vacuum.

Found 100's on Ebay - seems a decent price. Seller doesn't know how to identify A or B. Picture is clearly a Mazda box with 100 at the end.
Any ideas?

Sorry but I don't understand what you are asking.

100 at the end?
A or B?

I didnt think coil placement mattered much, just the wires/plugs.

I was looking up the OEM vs advanced auto/intermotor coils, but it seems that the intermotor ones are just the OEM ones, maybe a revision B. So I decided to go with them, saved $50 with a coupon code.

FYI, I bought 4 NGK plugs and the BWD/Intermotor coils (lifetime warranty) from advance auto online for $150 = $200-$50 coupon code (VISA at checkout). Then an extra $30 for NGK wires on amazon (woo amazon prime). Dunno how long it will last.

dont think u can find a anymore.

I got the intermotor coils, its exactly the same as stock, mazda does not make any of the electronic stuff, for example, nippon denso makes the ecu, not mazda. s1 fuel pump is made by Aarm, which is junk, s2 is made by nippon denso, 10 times better
