I got a call last week from a used car dealer in North Dakota that purchased my car on auction in Milwaukee and then sold it this weekend in his area there.
My car is (was, I guess now that it is not mine) a 2004 Lightning Yellow GT with appearance package, upsized tires and more.
If you bought this car this past weekend, you got my old baby ... have fun with it, be nice to it.
and PM me.

(who is fairly sorry he didn't buy the car from the leasing co.)

Stewy, if your looking for a group to cruise with, check out www.notfwd.com. They are a good bunch. Of course, you can always check up on the Chicago RX8 group.

Hey Al, good to hear from you man! Hope life is good ...
Yeah, I fell off the rotary bandwagon this year - after 4 years and three months in the saddle with the lease on the yellow banana mobile, it was time to move on. At the time, gas was still above $4.00 a gallon, the mileage on the thing was just pure stupid ($50 in gas every 200 miles ... WTF????), and the bloody leasing co. wouldn't play.
Ironically, after talking to the dealer that bought it - he paid $9800 for it at auction, the morons from US Bank, that wouldn't sell me the car for less than $14000 could have gotten $11.5 from me for it (that was my final offer), and the dealer that sold it got $14,200 for it. Oh well ... at the end of the day, it is a financial asset or liability, pure and simple.
So, found this fun little BMW convertible to drive, totally cherry condition, and what a wonderful thing torque is - the engine has a solid 225 HP (as opposed to the supposed 232 you got in the RX8, and more than 240 lb ft of torque. Drop the top and it's fun in the sunshine time.
So, I'll drive the bimmer for awhile and then decide what to do next. I had a M-B C350 4Matic on order that I cancelled when I found this car. Planning to drive it through next summer, and if the budget allows, will hand it off to my son for his senior year in HS and I'll get new wheels then.

bmw 3 series are a bit unimaginative to drive imo.
i suppose the 330ci is nicer due to the more powerful engine, but the e46 325i that i drove was kind of bleh. the steering felt disconnected, floaty. im a fan of the e30 325is though. they sure are easy to shift though, at least the e30 is. huuuge clutch engagement area.

IMO the people in US Bank's leasing program really are morons. My workplace leases about 25-30 cars. We get "X" amount as an allowance and can choose our own vehicle and negotiate our own deal. Most everyone who was was dumb enough to lease through US Bank (like me at one time) have found them very difficult to deal with on several different levels. Avoid them if you have a choice in the matter.
In regards to my e46 330Ci - I love it - steering is marvelously precise with an incredible feel, engine strong as hell, and there's no substitute for that "weighted" German car feel in all the controls, doors, lids, etc. The interior quality is just so much higher than the Mazda, it's laughable.
Ok, that said, this car DID sticker for $48,000 when new, and my RX-8 topped out at $33K, so I guess the money goes somewhere ... I paid under $16K for it - which makes it quite nice in my book.
Yeah, it doens't gather the attention that my screaming yellow RX8 did, and that's the part I miss the most. That car looked so cool. And drove great.
But I HATED the cheap-*** interior in it.
ah . . . a brief & small window into the brilliant decisions made by our beloved banking industry.
Glad to hear you're enjoying the bmw. Now go answer some questions here in the discussion section.

Here's five good hints:
1) Yes, the gas mileage sucks. Deal with it.
2) It's perfectly fine to burn 87 octane regular in it.
3) Manuals rule, automatics drool.
4) A good performance-car private shop is a great place to have routine maintenance like oil changes, brake jobs, etc. done provided they are using OEM or better parts.
5) You can 100% avoid flooding as long as you drive it for at least three minutes whenever you start it.
There, I did my duty.
Yeah, US Bank leasing is totally moronic. This is the second car we've leased from them - and they swing wildly on the behavior. Our first car we leased from them was about 10 years ago - a 96 Dodge Grand Caravan, and that car, they couldn't move fast enough to sell it to me at the end - they practically gave it to me - the residual on it was like $13,500, and I bought it for $8000. This one, the opposite happened. Go figure.
