I want a Carbon Fiber Sunroof replacement

Does anyone manufacture a CF replacement for the glass in the sunroof? I would pay good money for one. That glass has to weigh a good 20#.

Who needs to look out if the sunroof is closed anyway. I ususally close the visor when not open.

On the same weight topic. Has anyone installed the SRmotorsports PPF? If so, any comments? Weight? perceived lack or gain of strength or flex? NVH? Safety?

Of course. When am I ever not serious?

BTW. I have noticed that you are really big into 3-4 word posts. WUWT?

Why not simply replace the glass with a tarp, or better yet a garbage bag. It would be lighter than glass and look just as stupid as carbon fiber up there.

I thought the garbage bag might have been alittle out of line, but the tarp thing has some potential as an aftermarket accessory. does anyone else agree.

Well, in that case, I would go the other route. Just replace it with glass block. Sure it will be heavier, but you would still get light in from it, and you would have privacy from anyone flying over head. Its all about privacy, and remains a functional window.

OK I may be way out of line here but why not a lightweight plexiglass? Sounded good to me anyway.

But that is just the point. I dont need the light. And I want lightness. Also privacy is not my consern. If anyone wants to see what I am doing in my car, they are welcome. Just dont complain about what you see.

Well, I got to do the tarp now because with the glass out and the rain and all, I need some protection.

Actually, not a bad idea and along the lines that I was thinking, but plexiglass scratches and actually would look bad in a short time.

How about aluminum. Very light, and a heck of a lot cheaper than CF. Easier to have made also. Not a bad idea really. Save 5 or 10 lbs and lower the CoG just a hair.

Actually for someone with knowledge of carbon fiber manufacturing I don't think it would be that difficult to make. Costly though, and I'd be more concerned about fitment and leakage.

Exactly,

Hey, thats an idea. The motor would still be up there but lbs is lbs. Could paint the Aluminum to the body color. I have to get my hood repaired and painted. Could do this at the same time. Where would I even begin to look for someone to do this?

Yeah, leaks are going to be a very real concern. I could steal the sealant around the glass, but that would still be no guarantee.

So they do make them. Found one for the Dodge Stealth. Only $320.

Any machine shop should be able to do it. Sheet aluminum shouldn't be too expensive. My only concern would be having the roof up at speed.

It looks alright, but still a little out of place. Dude if you are going that route just make sure they know what they are doing so you don't get any leaks or fitment issues.

You mean like vibration issues?
