I ran my 8 at the track :(

First time... quick summary. didnt mess with tire pressure.

1st run, skided sideways during launch... R/T .173.... 14.3 @ 91.93mph
2nd run.. R/T .190... 14.4 @ 99.26mph
3rd run.. R/T of .045... missed 3rd gear .. 14.5 @ 96.71mph
4th run.. a mess, left .435 secs early, missed a gear and coasted to a 15.8 @ 94.71mph

So for my first time on a track, I didnt launch TOO bad .. at least during run 3. I have my cat converter on still till my midpipe gets here next week... I need some good tuning.... I cant see why I wont reach 13's next week when i go back.

off to bed.

how high did you rev up to launch?? and what elevation are you at when you race?

up here in minnesota its colder than ****, and the tracks are terrible.. closest one for drags is at rock falls raceway and it sucks there....everyone's trap speeds are slower here..

I was gonna say you should expect high/mid 14's but you got the turbo so Hmm dunno.. maybe tire pressure needs to be adjusted slightly or as Crazy said maybe it was just the cold weather keeping the track to cold keeping your traction very low.

No, I disagree... they don't suck.
That's a good job for a first time!!! It's great to see you going for it and posting a number. Many don't have the guts to do it.

On your second run, you trapped almost 100mph. Depending on what kind of 60ft you get, you're in the ballpark for getting into the 13's, but, man, it's cutting it close if you're running street tires. Hopefully your other mods will allow you trap about 101-102mph to give you a little more room. Just don't get frustrated if the 13's don't show up your next time out.

BTW forget about your R/T... sure it'll be important in the future if you stick with it, but race yourself and the clock while you're learning, and not the other guy or the tree just yet. R/T doesn't factor into your times.

Post your 60ft time to tell us how you're launching - it's critical, and largely determines your E/T. 60ft is also where you can make the most improvement by refining your technique.

Isn't anything faster than a .05 R/T a red light? I thought I might have read that somewhere.

Also, that 14.3 @ 91.93mph looks a bit strange - it was your best E/T but a very low mph. Did you let off early before crossing the 1320 line?

I did that my very first time racing in the GTO... I was kicking a white Z28's ***, let off too early, and then caught him again. He thought I was f'ing with him, but it was at night, and I couldn't see the end of that crappy track - same track Adrian ran his 13.1 1/4.

Depends on the track, at rock falls here they used to be a .5 was a perfect, but they changed it to a .00 system. so it all depends.

Seems like your car isn't running right. Even with the bad driving your traps should be higher.

Yea I'm turbo... it was my first time... my launches were not great at all... like I said, the first run I was going sideways and had to shift into 2nd quickly.

Yes, the first run I did let off at the end, honestly... I didn't know how long I had to stop afterwards, so I just coasted the final few feet.

my 60 times
1: didn't record...
2: 2.313
3: 2.195
4: 2.7 (stopped after the red light)

it seems wierd that my 2nd pass was 9 mph faster, and .1 slower.
I have all my slips here if you guys dont believe anything ill scan it.

Not bad for the first time.

Can imagine how you felt when your launch went sideways.

Did you try keeping the traction control on any of your pulls?

Bet you are glad you beat the Civics

Yeah I kept the TC on, but DSC off after that.

The thing that sucks is at Atco your forced to drive through the wetbox... didnt really have a need to heat up stock tires... :-\

Oh there's no problem there - absolutely believe the times. Just as I was able to figure out that you lifted on the first run from the low trap/good E.T., there are other interesting things you pull out from your 60' times. For instance, you had a better launch on run 3 than you did on your clean run 2. Combine the launch from 3 with how your car ran and how you shifted on 2, and you're knocking on the 13's. I'd say you have to get closer to a 2.0-2.1 60' with the power you're currently making to get 13.99 or better.

So I'll stop there on the analysis, because from what you're telling us, you had only one clean run, that was run 2. To see how you're progressing, it would be much better to have at least 3 or 4 clean runs side-by-side to get more meaningful information.

For the next time, remember not to "hot-lap" and give your car enough time to cool so it's not pulling timing from high intake temps. Last, when you go through the water box, burn out just enough to get the layer of water, rocks and dirt off your tires. Heating a street tire isn't going to buy you much, other than destroying the insides of your back tires, because it's in a independant rear suspension (the *** end of the car drops, increasing the camber, so the contact patch is all riding on inner edge). They probably make you go through the box because the staging area has a bunch of crap you drive through. Best of luck of your next runs, and let us know how ya do.

WAIT - Your on STOCK tires? Thats why your times suck.

You need to get a REAL set of tires - Falken Azeni's, Toyo Proxies, etc...

Those really won't help much at the strip. In fact some more track oriented tires tires may raise his times depending on temps.

Well fine, how about a set of semi-slicks, or something? ANYTHING is better than the stock tires, IMO..
