I think he means, can you turn the wheel if the engine is off, or if the engine is off but the key is in.

The answer to what I translated is: Power steering only works when engine is on, so answer is no, you need to turn engine on. Says so in the user manual.

^^ This is AFTER the edit?

I was going to help but I still can't make sense of your post, so I'm going to add in punctuation as I see fit and then answer.

Your frustration is understandable. The steering wheel’s knowledge of the ecs system is limited at best. Yes, I too turn with keys sometimes (but I rarely post about it on here - it's pretty common). Regarding off and with the key on engine off, in this instance the steering wheel is somewhat more familiar with the ecs than, say, in the instance of off and the key off engine on or on with the key off engine off.

I hope this helps.

eugeneweyker, why would you have to ask this question if you actually had the key? Is the 8 in question *cough* yours? And why do you suddenly "need help" with this to the point that you created an account just to ask this question?

Oh, and to answer your question, if you try to turn the wheel without the key in, the doors lock and the Homelink system calls the police.

That was Brilliant!

I'll try the same thing with certain emails at work!

Question...why would you need to steer the car while it is off?

just turn it on drive it inside and then quickly turn it off before it warms up and you will be good. According to your post you want to do double work, so you can do your planned work and de-flooding work

your steering wheel is locked, try turning the wheel really hard while turning the key.

Let me have a crack at this....

Your steering is locked, not the engine?

The steering is electric, if the battery is flat the steering will be very heavy without the engine running.
