I must be missing something.............

I have had my RX-8 for nearly two weeks now, and with each passing day, I seem to love it more (the Winning Blue is really starting to grow on me). I have read several threads, on various other car forums, that bash the RX-8 when it comes to torque and speed. Here is just one example:

http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=192851

I must be missing something, because quiet honestly, I think it's a very quick car(especially when one considers it has four seats and four doors).

My previous car was a 2001 Honda S2000. That car was pretty darn fast. Not necessarily the quickest off the line (then again, maybe I just didn't know how to launch it properly), but that car was a screamer (literally) past 6 grand. By comparision, I think my RX-8 is much easier to launch and certainly seems quicker off the line. I have also noticed how much smoother it is at high speeds than the "S" (one of the advantages of the rotary I'm sure). I also seems to be much easier to speed in my RX-8 without realizing it.

Don't get me wrong. I realize that the RX-8 is not the fastest car available, I just don't think that it is as slow as many make it out to be. Then again.........I could be wrong.......................

People who call the RX-8 slow don't know how to drive it. It isn't the fastest car in a straight line, but run it through some turns and it's a lot quicker than most cars in its class.

Simply put. People who don't know... hate. Most of the haters have never driven one, so they shouldn't even be able to judge unless your judging strictly on looks. It isn't the fastest, but let the numbers and accolades speak for themselves.

That was an RSX forum there. Some of the comments are from disgruntled honda people are just ridiculous. It is the best overall value under $30k- not just straight line speed.

The problem is that because the car is so smooth, you don't feel as much of the brute force in acceleration as with other cars, the car gracefully gains speed with relative ease, it just doesn't sound or feel as fast as it actually does.

Let me just put it this way ... many say that the RX8 is slow and some have bashed the RX8 automatic as sssslow. Maybe that was before the M flash. I drive the automatic and I have to disagree with those who say that it is slow. With the M flash, I can get my automatic up from 0-60 is 7 seconds based on my stopwatch. It may go up to 7.5 seconds or 8 seconds (during cold mornings), but my best was 7. I don't think that is slow. I drive very fast everyday and get scared sometimes that I go up to 90MPH about 3-4 minutes after I take out my car from the garage. I then slow down as I know the engine is not yet warmed up. Mazda did something with the ECU programming that many won't believe an RX8 automatic can be that fast (7 - 7.5 seconds) as oppose to a manual that clocks 6 - 6.5 seconds. I feel I'm using up the max horsepower (190 at least). Some RX8 manual dinoed at 168mph - 186mph as their true HP as oppose to 238hp. I really cannot believe my RX8 automatic has less than 180-185 hp. Even the manuals that dinoed at 168-186 could be faster. I'm not sure where all this bashing is from. It is a fast car if the driver knows how to drive it.

While all the World reads the many posts across various forums - one can only surmise that those who have truely driven an RX8, should be the only ones that should be able to post comments about the 8 from the drivers seat perspective. But, we live in a Internet society where non rotary owners can bash us by the published numbers alone - typical.

I'm going for a drive....

To be quite honest ... I don't really care whether this is faster than car x or y (I would have bought some fancy Ferarri or Viper that I don't need). I got the car because of it's smooth sleek look, the driving performance, practicality and overall value for my dollar. Sure the HP or the mileage may not be exactly what is printed, but do I really need that extra HP to get me to work quicker OR that extra kilometer that I'll be getting from the gas tank? Nah.

Just enjoy the car for what it is --> an AWESOME machine!

I have driven the 8, twice... It's just not that fast, but yes it's fun to drive and handles damn well. That's prettymuch the same thing many of the people on the RSX forum are saying. If it's fast enough for you, great. But many people expected more, and some of us need more.

Ayap, give up this "My RX-8 auto does 0-60 in 7 seconds, I counted" nonsense. Go find a freaking strip and run your car, you break 16 seconds stock and I'll trade in my WRX for an AT RX-8.

The torque is definitely lacking in the RX-8. Just try turning into a hill in either first or second and you'll quickly see what I mean. In comparison, my mom's Toyota Rav4 throws me into the seat everytime I feather the gas off the line. I just about never get that sensation with the RX-8, even when I'm practically standing on the gas pedal off the line.

Not that I'm complaining, but it's wise to not make out the car to be what it's not. Especially when I could probably be beaten by a mini van or something (auto RX-8 owner).

I think the important thing to remember is who cares? I dont care what someone else thinks about my car. I like it. If you like it enjoy it and thats it.

I think you're like me - the only thing you're missing is the point of why all these whining idiots get so wrapped up in the numbers even if they love the car.

Actually though I suspect you're just blinded by that love of the car.

You are talking about a honda thread started by a kid how, in his own words, has a car worth less then our down payment...does that not tell you something?

Really, threads like this are getting tiresome........

By the way, I have personally been beat by a modded sanitation truck, damn thing must be running a low 13, with a full load of garbage.....

It had a huge carbon fiber wing, and "mazzzda killa" painted on the back..the 70 year old toothless overall wearing municipal employee driving it had a manic gleam in his catarect clouded eyes......the thing took off so fast that the can grabbers were flapping on the back like streamers.....and poopy diapers, sanitary napkins and old newspaper mixed with friut rinds and bannana peel flew off the back faster then fanboys jumped off the NYY bandwagon..

Now, you may think this is a story, and you would be right, but how do you know for sure....like for example, how do we know a 17 year old with a rsx did beat a mazda?....and more importantly, why does anyone care?

That's funny. I see in my mind a shiny green garbage truck outfitted with chrome shiny wheels, chrome smoke stacks!!! A big bull dog on the front hood and at the leather wrapped wheel is Joe the sanitation guy out popping the clutch at green lights with a full load of garbage just to beat the RX. That's a funny picture. Man I will like to see pics of a drag race with an RX and a garbage truck. Oh no, don't , could not bare to see it.

They aren't all saying the 8's are slow. Only the a$$hole kids on there that say their is so much faster. Bullcrap. Of course none of them are not going to say they lost to a 8. Here is a post i found that gives respect to our car.............
''I have driven both the auto and the 6 speed RX8 and neither feel all that fast, but its due to the lack of torque. I actually liked the auto better because of the paddle shifters on the wheel. It was new and fun to drive. If you don't want to shift all the time its definately the way to go.

I ran an 8 in my type S a few months ago and I won. I think it was an auto. I would think the right driver in a six speed could own a type S though.''

I think a lot of those type of posts are the result of sour grapes because in so many comparo articles the 8 beats them:

"This is bull ****! My cars faster than an 8 and this rag wrote the 8 up as the winner what's up with that???"

Like so many others have posted: ride on!

IS the RSX faster...NOT

When I was looking at buying , the RSX was on my short list as a car to take a look at. I was only looking at the type-s 6sp man, and took one out for a test drive. I really wasn't expecting alot out of a 200 hp eng, and I wasn't disappointed. I really pushed the car coming off the onramp to the highway and it just seemed like it was really struggling to give what I was asking. After the drive I took the RSX off my list.

My next ( and last) test drive was the 8 6m. It accelerated much faster and smoother then the RSX and didn't even seem like it was sweating it at all. I was running into the 80's before I realized it and had to slow down. After I bought one I still have to set the cruise on it just to make sure I'm not speeding. Much better car, smoother, and yes faster then an RSX.

Now, of course these were both stock cars and I'm sure there is alot more mod stuff out there for the RSX then there is currently for the RX8, but stock to stock, there is no comparison. :D

I think a lot of these "racing" and "kills" threads that you see are basically saying "I'm David and I just beat Goliath". Guess people always want to one-up the "better" car to feel more self-confident. I'm not saying that the 8 is faster or whatever, but it's looks give it the illusion of speed, etc.

It's just like if I "raced" some Grandma in a Porsche 911 and beat the snot out of her ... then came running back here saying "Dudes! I just beat a tricked out 911!! That biatch thought she was the $hit!! My skillz are mad yo!!" See ... David and Goliath.
