There is a reason you didn't see much in the AT performance forum.

You will gain only about 5 HP max as far as bolt-ons go without going FI and that's after spending thousands. Mazda did all the tunning work already essentially. You'd be wasting your money.

I guess you could try Nitrous.

just get an MT..hahaha, seriously don't waste your time modding an AT if you don't plan on turbo or nitrous, no gains. Your best bet would be to work on your suspension.

was your miata automatic? what happened to it, sounds like you crashed it........oh well, you MIGHT be able to get 10 more hp out of the auto motor without going FI (turbo or super charger) and even then, you wont really feel it and your car will be loud and sound horrible with no cat......

good luck. even us manual owners can only get about 10-20 hp more, but at least we get to start 30hp above the autos.

The AT is slow I knew that going in and have accepted it
thats really the bottom line
unless you want to go sc or turbo like others have said but you posted you dont wish to do that.

even the MT rx8 is not really that fast IMO

the rx8 to me is the best looking car for around 30k but not even close to the fastest

Um ok. You guys are a lil bit too serious about this thread. Didnt find much help except for NGO. Everyone seems to be a little jumpy on the auto thing. Im not trying to race I just want some kick. And I like my auto. Theres nothing wrong with making a great car better. Plus I cant look sexy shifting and putting makup on j/k.

Wait for a supercharger to be adapted to the AT. Hymee said he'd be doing that.

If you just want a better take-off and are not concerned about top end speed, put a different ratio rear-end in. That is about the only thing that will improve the launch in a way you can feel.

Here are some things to help you.

www.racingbeat.com look into the revi and ram air intake
http://mazsport.net/store//product156.html you can have the car tuned

you can also look into getting a midpipe or high flow cat. check out these sites for those

www.mazdaparts.com

there are 2 things with this forum (that i dont always agree with)

1) people get pissed when you dont search for an awnser to your question
2) its not that people wont awnser your questions, sometimes there is no awnser

case in point, there are not that many parts for the auto, pretty much all the parts that you can put on an auto are for the manual and happen to fit the auto.

this may be stupid, but can some AT's be better than others performance wise? cause my friend has a fuly loaded yellow MT8 and he drove my car and he says it feels and drives better than the 8 that he test drove at the dealership and another AT he drove...he said thats somethings different and that if feels real good and that it takes off, he actually muttered the words, ALMOST feels like my 8..

clearly its not as good as the MT's...but he just said it feels different, I don't know it may be possible...

dont expect any N/A can give your auto 8 a kick. it wont even do the magic for MT, why are you expecting it for the AT ?(which has lower HP in the first place)

Anyway, just like NGO said. nothing else could be done.

simple

Ahh yeah! Thank you for that post Mike. Best one so far. Say next time you hit up Vegas just let me know. I'm at the Hard Rock now
Also pashelle just wait till a SC comes out. They are using one in the UK right now for our AT-8

While I was selling my 93 RX7, I noticed several dealers in my neighborhood with RX8 AT's, so I took them for a test drive.

I must admit, since my RX7 was pushing 325 HP, the RX8 AT was a little weak. I also have an '03 PT Cruiser Woody AT and an '02 Chevy Tracker AT 6 banger, so I'm used to the AT's.

IMHO, I think the RX8 AT is a nice package, but the big-*** silver shift pedals are overkill. They are way too big and are distracting. Most people will not use the AT shifters and stay with the Automatic shift. I sold my RX7 and bought an '04 RX8 GT MT. It's great, but I'd rather have a 5 speed in it instead of the 6 speed.

The least expensive change (for the result), most likley to make a difference you can feel is a different rear end arrangement. It will reduce top end and hurt gas mileage to some degree because the engine will rev higher at a given speed. A super charger will also make a difference but there are potential risk factors for the longevity of the engine. Intakes, exhausts, easy flow converters etc. will not produce a significant improvement.

The RX8 sales are already slow. You take away the auto, and the RX8 will go the way of the GTO. The rotary engine appeals to such a small demographic already, that if you then narrow it even futher by alienating customers who prefer an automatic, you are only hurting yourself. I hear so many people here say that they would like to see fewer people buy RX8's so that they will be unique. Why do you think our aftermarket accessories selection is so slim and expensive? Would you really prefer to have even less choice, and pay more for it? I can think of a word for that, but it isn't "unique".

I agree with you, all sports car should come with a manual transmission ONLY
thats one thing I like about Honda is, that their best models are manuals only. eg RSX type S, S2000 etc

It really doesn't matter...Just because the AT's don't have clutch and 2 extra gears. You're still able to control it manually.
