if you want auto, then wait til the 06s come out, then youll have a 6 speed auto instead of the current 4 speed (witha bit more power too). im more preferential to the manual though

as for the first q, i cant answer that :D

Somewhere in between if your talking about the auto.

Wait for the 6 speed auto.

The rotary engine is unique. Go test drive one, your desire for an rx8 will go up. Also, since you can't afford the '06, get a manual '04 or '05. If you don't know how to drive a manual, you have many options on how to learn it. Trust me, you won't regret it. I hesitated buying the manual rx8 (which has 40 more horsepower than the automatics in '04 and '05 builds), because I had no clue how to drive it, but it only takes a day or two to grasp. I'm never going to buy an automatic coupe/sedan again.

From this site http://honda.jbcarpages.com/Accord/2003/index4.php
http://mazda.jbcarpages.com/RX8/2004/index4.php

2003 V6 Accord 3,360 Lbs 240 Hp / 212 Tq
2005 Rx-8 3,050 Lbs 197 Hp / 162 Tq

The Accord will merge faster than an AUTO Rx-8

Yes, you want a stick to merge faster. Plus you have to be not afraid to rev it.

I am surprised that with 240hp you have trouble merging and going from 55mph to 75mph. When I had my 2800lbs 130bhp automatic 2003 Mazda Protege (90whp), I merged onto highways with quickness, like nobody's business. I'd redline 2nd gear every day. High revs in 3rd going from 65 to 75-80. Done accelerating, cruise in 4th. My car had 4.6hp per 100lbs... hell, if I had your 7.1hp per 100lbs Accord, I'd be hauling *** like nobody's business.

Now though I have my 8hp per 100lbs RX-8 and I rev it and haul *** in it proper!

Thing is, you have to be not afraid to rev it high. If you want V6-style low-end torque (like your current Accord), then you won't get it with the 8.

P.S., you should just test drive an auto RX-8... even though it's technically slower and less low-end torque than your V6 Accord, who knows, the car may feel totally different and you may feel that it merges onto the highway with ease.

I'm a little confused, the V6 accord is plenty fast enough....???

Anyway, if your going to get an 8...I too suggest the 6speed because just the thought of losing 40HP makes me cry.

Like already stated, go test drive (like I did)...and you will see for yourself, the RX8 makes you lust for it and forget all other cars on your list.

I 2nd that, my friend has an 03 accord v6, his car has a greddy exhaust and AEM cold air intake, its a manual, but it is faster than my manual rx8, so if I had an auto 8 he would spank me with a quickness.

If your going auto, dont go rx8, it kills it IMO.

The v6 accord auto/manual and the rx8 manual are pretty close in straight line speed.

as someone mentioned, the accord only has .9 hp less per 100 lbs.

More like an r2!

Seriously though, as has already been said, drive it to experience the smoothness of the rotary engine. It's way smoother than any piston engine.

If merging is what you're looking for, you want the manual so you can rev it all the way up in a controlled manner. Two beeps and you'll be close to cruising speed.
