You can't really hold the car still on an incline using the clutch so I hope that's not what you are doing in your driveway. That's just rubbing the snot out of it. I still don't like people who pull up close behind me on an inclined stop.
i hate when drivers pull up close behind me on a steep hill. once i was caught in a traffic jam in a parking structure for 1 hour, i was on the 6th level below ground and there were steep ramps going up at every turn around on each level. everytime i came up to the ramp, i'd wait at the bottom of the ramp until the car in front of me would get to the top, then i'd go

You got to give it some gas, the higher the incline the more gas, while your coming off the clucht, you will feel it catch then slowly release the clucht and attain the speed you want. Some people bump the throttle and start releaseing on the second bump, sometimes you will spin your tires, thats when you know its too much. Eventually you will get a short roll back and a pull off, you can get to the point where theres no noticeable rb.

Practice so that you are One with your Manual Tranny, May the Force Be with You.

The coolest thing is to start without using the e-brake on very steep inclines an with no noticeable roll.
It seems easy but it takes a lot of practice.

I'm quite surprised that anyone purchased the Rx-8 without knowing stick shift first. I was quite freaked out about the flooding that I practiced enough that on my first week of driving, I only stalled twice on the rx-8. I know I am overreacting about the flooding but no one else was overreacting before they purchased this car as their first stick shift?

I'm on my second day of actually driving my MT RX-8. Sure I stall out at times but I just make sure the engine has been warmed up first before I start practicing. Everything's pretty good after the engine's warm. It's just the time when the car is warming up that you should be worried about that.

Edit: but then again I know how to drive a motorcycle so that I guess helps a bit.

Of course only worry about flooding when engine's cold. But i could never wait 5 mins for the engine to warm up at idle when it would only take 2 driving normally.

Agreed !! You never want to hold a hill using the clutch!!
Although it may wow the person behind you that you aren't using your brakes .... just put the car in neutral while you wait for the light to change and then start out like normal.

One possibly helpful hint I found as an new 8' owner myself .... move the seat up a bit!!!!! Don't drive the car like your laying down to take a nap!! ... your leg shouldn't be fully extended w/ the clutch in !!! ... I did this a bit a first.. and got sick of it.... get closer to the steering wheel .. and sit up a bit ... you'll find you can drive much better that way.
