Welcome to the board. The difference in hp stated on the board is hp at the crank & hp at the wheels. There is a phenomenon called driveline loss, where you lose hp because it has to go through various mechanical parts in your car (ala transmission, driveshaft, diff., etc.). Usually it is calculated at about 15% to 18% loss. So when somebody states 238 hp, that is the hp at the crank/engine. RX8's average around 180 hp at the wheels.

Fanman makes a good point as usual and it amazes me as well about driveline loss.

i've read elsewhere that the 8 loses about 35hp at the wheels from the crank, not nearly 60hp.

Sounds like a street race - which we do not condone -Abbid

SRT-4 specs

and everybody should know the RX-8 specs :p.

I've only seen 1 RX8 put down 200+ whp stock (238-35 = 203). Most people dyno at around the 170-190 whp range. Do a search, everybody pretty much does around that. There was a group in the Northwest where they all dynoed high (particular dyno), and ones that dyno low (mustang dyno).

The 0-60 & 1/4 mile (also 0-100) times say we are indeed closer to the 180 hp vs. where a 238 hp car should really be (around that low 200 mark). This car really is running around 215-220 hp (that would dyno out to about 180 whp).
