Hows this for a first car?

Well, its been a few months since my graduation from high school and I need a car of my own.
Im looking for an 04-06 rx8 around 14k-16k.
And no I have never owned a car of my own.
I've driven an 06 odyssey, audi a4, 04 camry, sedona, and 08 accord with a4 being the best of course.
So, you think this is a good decision?
I was looking for cars that are a bit sporty and not too old/ugly (I cant stand owning an ugly car).
Im interested in unique cars and the rx8 is definitely unique.

Oh, and I was told not to get an 04 since it was the first model...

no one knows, you are the first person to ever want this as their first car. Please search, there is this exact same topic already being discussed like 2 threads down from this one

I had a pretty shitty car for my first, but I never really didn't anything crazy in it. One year later I had a 1988 RX-7. Boy was it a blast.

My first car was an FC... it was fun.

If you are mechanically illiterate then I wouldn't recommend this car for you. Oil change every 3k miles, checking oil levels at every other gas fill-up, and a very finicky engine as well. If this is going to be your first car then make sure not to flood your engine. Maintenance on this car is very expensive for a person who just graduated from high school.

This was my first tuner type car.

Im kinda regretting it at this point, I didnt do my research and I blew $7000 on bolt on and plug n play parts that gave me maybe, MAYBE 15HP. I should have looked into the rotary more beforehand.

But its comfy, pretty and just fun to drive. But now Im seriously considering a speed6, better gas mileage and being a 4 banger, easier to gain HP with intakes and other crap.

Id say if you like the 8 and arent planning on building a power monster, go for it! Just make sure its still under warranty. Chances are you'll need it.

Meh, the 8 isn't really a tuner car. It's a pure sports car, and only really lacking when it comes to FI.

Listen to this guy! This car is a whinny needy biatch that may suck you dry emotionally and financially, you don't just buy one of these and expect it to run like a Honda and never worry about it. My car has been in the shop twice in the past 8,000 mi and is there right now. I would be dead broke on the street if I didn't still have the warranty.

This was my first car out of high school by the way, and it has completely changed my life and taught me a lot about cars. The RWD never got me in trouble, you have to go pretty damn fast for this car to get scary, and over-steering isn't as scary as under-steer in a FWD (imho). Honestly I wouldn't change my decision to buy it if I ever could.

Nonetheless, it is your decision, that is my advice, well and SE3Ps

Nope, but it helps get the shop manual if you want EVERYTHING, lol.

If that is what you want, and you can learn a lot doing that, get an Nissan 200SX or something.

I just got the 8 a little over 6 months ago, and I love it. The idea of a 4 door coupe, the amazing handling, the sexiness inside and out, the only downside, as mentioned above, is the maintenence. I also like that the car is fast, but it's only fast when you want it to be, meaning it can be a nice smooth slow ride and it can also take you for an adrenaline rush.

The 8 is what I love about driving but the Legend was more practical. It all depends on what you want.
I wish my parents dished out money like that. I have to save up for my ride.

an 8 is more car then a new driver can handle.

As long as you can respect that, it's a fine first car. Except for gas, maintenance, and cosmetic upkeep.

I firmly believe that all new drivers should have a crappy old Honda Accord. Get your new driver mistakes out of the way in a car you don't give a **** about.

the 8 is... sexy ^^
i love how its a 4 door coupe, and its sporty enough for me.
i was thinking of a 04 camry or 03 accord but they are just not sporty enough for me.
i dont mean that i need a GTR or anything.

btw, where is the cassette/tape player in this car o.O
ive been looking at buttloads of pictures but all i can see is the "tape" button and thats all.
