Remember.... I'm the guy who can't find a decent dealer, yet received one of these.. back in Feb no less.. Hmmm..

Well lo and behold one of the dealers in my area ordered the car but failed to even notify me. I had to contact Mazda USA to find out who did it and when..

Slim shady if you ask me.

Well see, I placed the pre-order via the website back in Jan and sent it to a few of the dealers im my area. I wasnt really expecting anything out of it as no dealer called or even emailed me about it. Not until AFTER I received that email did I get suspicious and went to visit the dealers

I hadn't signed anything let alone paid any deposit, or even set foot in a dealership before I got that email. It was weird. Even Mazda USA was trippin.

After about a month of waiting, Mazda USA finally found out what dealer submitted it and told me to contact them. And guess what.. when I did .. they were like, "oh yeah.. we submitted the car order in your name.. and oh.. when it comes in.. we'll give you first crack at it..

I'm like wuuuuuuuuuuuh?? First Crack?!?! WTH is that.. I guess in a way it's good since the car was in the 1st batch orders and should be here early. But I know for sure I wont be happy about the price they're gonna want. Especially since "it's up for grabs to anyone" but still ordered in my name.

Yes.. our dealers have turned the preorder program into some crack of their own.

It's how dealers can get a few more cars, if they have a name attached to the order, then it makes it easier for them to get a better alotment. If you want to make sure that you can get the car for retail, I'd go down and talk to the sales manager, and tell him that you want the car at MSRP. Try and get them to sign an agreement of somekind. If you are truly serious about buying the car. If your still in doubt, then leave it be. Firest Crack would be, "Sure will sell you your car for $5000 over MSRP, Do you still want it?"

Dont get me wrong. I want the car. Now that I know ones coming first shipment, BOY do I want it.

I have already talked to the Senior Sales Mgr. He assured me of the first crack and thats about it. He couldn't give me any price because they say "It's too early, we dont even know the price...".

The first thing I told em was I want it at MSRP. He said he seriously doubts they'll sell it to me for that. He also gave me the schpeel on why he couldnt. Apparently doing business in my state justifies huge markups of obscene amounts.

That's bu!!sh@t! Tell him to check the Mazda USA website. They have the pricing all over the site!

I know, I know, you've probably done that already. Remind me never to move to Hawaii and try to buy a car.

I feel your pain, dude!

hehe.. yup been there done that.

When the car comes in I will still try to push the issue on MSRP. I have my doubts they will fly with it. But depending on how much gouge they wish to apply, I might just have to lube it up and take it. Myy other option is to wait till late this year possibly next and buy one off the lot (if there is one) as I watch someone buy what is supposed to be "my" car..

So back to the question.. has anyone else received that email.

I'd print out a copy of the order from the website and take it into the sales mgr and see if then he can figure out the price...

yes many other people have received that email(i am not one of them- have i mentioned that yet ) that is the second of the string of email that are supposed to give you updates on the production on your car. like the vin when it is available, when the car comes off the line, when it is on a boat, when it hits port, and when it gets to the dealer.

back to the other topic- that dealer sucks! the pre-order process was designed by mazda to keep people from getting screwed by the dealers. and of all places hawaii is the one place where a crack down is needed. it's not like you have a bunch of other choices or you can just drive to the next state to get a better deal. if i were you i'd go have a talk with the consumer affairs people and get them to help you. from your previous posts i really think the three dealers there are price fixing and they need a wake up call.

I would, but I think if I do that, none of them will sell me the car. Besides I wouldnt know where to start. Mazda even says they can't dictate pricing with independent dealers. Plus if the demand is great they can sell it at whatever they want. Knuckleheads around here would probably pay 40+ I bet. Not me...

Yep paradise aint all that.

We'll see what they want it for when it arrives. Rest assured I will post it here. So you all can bear witness to greedy dealers.

How much does it cost to ship a car from the Mainland to Hawaii? That might be an alterntive, but I'm not sure of the cost.

Anywhere from 1000 to 2000 I believe.

I've considered that.. Which leads me to the conclusion that if I can get the car at about 1-2K over MSRP here, it MAY be ok.

Anything more than that, then I'd rather work a deal in the mainland and ship it here.

Never thought buying a car would be so complicated. Hahaha

Well here's one I just got today. Pretty good for a guy who hasnt dropped a dime on the car eh.. Good thing Mazda USA backed me up in finding the dealer who tried to pull a quick one. They're still saying all I have is "first dibs" on the car.. gotta love that.

that would be a "3rd" email. the first said "thanks for placing your order online now get ye to a dealership" the 2nd was the one you started this thread with. that is a third and as far as i know you are the first to post about receiving it.

Yep -o- I just got mine also. Boy it going to be nice when they send you that VIN # it's almost like having a birth certificate. I'm really liking the fact that they are sending e-mails with updates. That's very cool.
