No, the special editions were the heaviest. The lightest were the MT base or sport trim of each year at 2,8##lbs The GTs and special editions were up to 3,0##lbs.

Base or Sport model would be the lightest. Type S wasn't sold in the U.S. I'm not up on the Canadian model nomenclature. High power was the only engine available with Manual Transmission in North America.

@ carrnutt, Here is the reply I received from MNAO..

Mr. _____

Upon conducting some internal research here at Mazda North American Operations, I was able to produce the following information regarding Mazda RX-8 R3 production volume.

- 2009MY = 555 units
- 2010MY = 263 units
- 2011MY = 132 units

I do hope the above information proves to be useful for you. Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations.

Thanks for that. Are those just the North American numbers? Damn. I really wish they kept numbers based on colors as well.

I just purchased a 2011 R3 Velocity Red last week. The dealership owner had been driving it so it was used with 5,000 miles. I had no idea they were so rare. Thanks for this info.

Bump to the old thread (I feel like most of the threads here are old). Total production number of RX-8 from the first car to the last is : 193 318 cars. From those 9135 were S2 models. R3 were probably a fraction of whole production, and I don't know how many were LHD, but I'll try to contact Mazda to get that info. Stats I've gave you here were obtained by the owner of few Mazda dealerships here in Poland.

Related article claims numbers sold in the U.S. and Canada.
2004 is not listed. (?)
