How many RX-8's are going to be built?

Just wondering how rare the car is going to be in the states. I heard 15,000 this year. How many RX-7's were brought to the states?

Mazda said last year that they needed to sell close to 30,000 units in the U.S. annually to justify the business case to Ford. I wish them all the best of luck, because if the 8 is not successful our chances of seeing the Gen 4 RX will become increasingly less likely. So, based on the fact that cars started ariving in late July/early August of this year, 15,000 would be inline with the number you heard if you're looking at the end of December, but 30K was the U.S. "sales year" goal.

Oops,

Sorry LightEmUp... misread your post. The total production run from 1993 through 1995 was somewhere between 15 and 16,000 units I believe!

I hope most Mazda dealers to get off their high chair and start offering some decent discounts, especially with the power issue spreading to the medias. My local Mazda dealership is still trying to charge 'premium' over these cars even though the 3 RX-8 has been sitting there for more than 2 weeks. 30,000 means they have to sell 3000+ every month before winter. Not looking good, but I am sure dealership discounts will help.

btw: I wouldn't worry about Ford too much with regards to the RX. Mazda can live without Ford, but they won'y give up thr rotary engine until the end. :D Now bring us the damn turbo Renesis on 2 seater.

My question is, how many will be built AND sold.

I was the first at our local dealer. 8/29/03

LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of lookers, test drivers, lease questions, rejected finance applicants.... but no buyers. There were absolutely NO pre-orders for this dealer to deliver. Shame. I had to get my car through a swap program (thanks for the inventory search, Mazda!) with another dealer in my 150 mile search radius.

This is definately Ford Country... coulda got a fully loaded Mustang Cobra or MACH... but didn't want one of those 'merican cars.

First glimpse of it in the X2 movie made me sit up and say... that is a sharp f*cking car, I want one!!!

:D

I read on some site (been everywhere) that the goal was 12,000 in the US alone this year 2003 Then pick up to 30,000 annually.

Since June, Mazda has been producing 5000+ RX8 for export to N. America, according to Mazda monthly production report. However, the report does not breakdown exactly how many of those were shipped to US and how many to Canada? Also, the word is that Mazda reallocated its resources in late July to pump out more 8's to satisfy N. American demand. That said. I have been waiting for my car since May. But that's what I get for ordering the MT package, I suppose.

I digress. Since Hiroshima seems to have the production capability to product 6000+ car monthly, 30,000 cars a year is not out of the question. Of course, I would expect Mazda to taper down production for N. Americe gratually. Now selling 30,000 is a different story. Only time will tell.

I heard a lot the same as RodsterinFl, 18,000 world wide, of which 12,000 would be US, then 30,000 a year till whenever.

I read today that about 480 cars had been sold (delivered?) in Canada so far. Remember we are historically only about 10% of the U.S. volume.

BTW our cars seem identical (except for slight differences in packages to the U.S. cars) What I mean is, same issues with the A/C, exhaust soot, MPG, etc. We got basically the same offer because of the horsepower issue as well.

It will be interesting to see if all our cars are mapped the same (California?)
