I had exactly 4 miles. i was very bad i gave them a letter, faxed them a list of what to do.

1. Can not have more than 10 miles
2. Do not wash the car
3. Do not take off the plastic ( from shipping)
4. Only the manager can drive my car
5. doors locked and manager holds the keys till i pick it up
6. mats in the trunk
7. I want to fill teh gas tank up when i recieve the car

You forgot the most important one: no stickers or badges! That was my only stated demand on my pre-order car. It was already pretty clear that no one was to drive it, save for the PDI. Oh, and it was either 4 or 5 miles.

71 miles, but the deal I got left me complaining little. Didn't get there in time to remind them not to put their badge on but luckily it came off easily and left no marks. They had it washed and filled up and all the TSBs I mentioned done. EXCEPT! I showed them the grommet one and the service manager said she had never seen one come off. Sure enough, as soon as I got home, around 100 mile trip one was missing. Now, today I notice the rear defrost button cracked. I know their was a TSB out for this. I am going to pick a day and let them do my first service and get both those items fixed. The saleman has called me twice in two weeks following up. So far a good experience and a great price...

That's a good idea, having a list. I wish I had a list that said don't try to sell me a car with 228 miles on it. When do you present your list, before or after you negotiate the price?

Awww, don't complain. You got a great deal. The best one I've heard of. I told the guy at CarsDirect about your deal, he couldn't believe it. He told me if I can get an RX-8 for $2,000+ below invoice, hang up the phone and go get it now.

Ha! No complaints at all. Just a minor annoyance because I am so far from them. Yes, my deal was awesome, 24,739 for nordic green, mt, sport package, 6 cd, spoiler, spare tire. Price sight unseen for my trade-in, financed an RX8 for 19,200 @ 4.49 %. Makes me feel great. Worked them hard and it payed off...

How do you keep them talking to you? I would think once they've already offered you $1,000 below invoice and you're still wanting to negotiate, they've got to be asking themselves if this guy is really worth it and wouldn't they be better off keeping the car on the lot for a while longer.

Quack, I visited two dealers and negotiated with 5 dealers. The one I bought from had at least 6 8's on his lot and mentioned he had more at another location. I knew he had to move them with the 5;s coming very soon. He knew I was a serious buyer because I am almost positive he checked with the dealer that gave me an offer of 5K off the sticker right off the bat. 27, 400 for a velocity red, gt, etc. I didn't want all those extras but he knew he at least had to match that offer on the options i wanted and he knew that I had down the costs of every package, option etc. He made money, just not all of it on me and I am willing to bet that 85% of the customers that come in after will make it up for him because unfortunately a big percentage of car buyers go into a dealer with little research and allow the dealer to set a comfortable payment vs. negotiating the actual price of the car. Not too mention the supposeded Mazda percentage to the dealers that is out there now for the 04's/ I shudder when i am in a dealership and see someone buying a car and overhear the dealer talking about what kind of payment do you want? Its a shame how so many people get taken to the cleaners when its really unneccessary but the new car buy is intoxicating.

I think I had 16 miles. That was the shortest distance I've ever seen on any car.

47 miles
$300 over invoice ($2k under, wow!)
Gave them a list of all relevant TSB's, "M" flash, etc.
Forgot to tell them no dealer signage, but it peeled off easily
Did remember to tell them to leave the front plate off, it's in the trunk
Replaced their ugly rear license plate frame with a nice black/clear one

12 miles, S Plan and then some off on the pricing - absolutely no hassle.

I also told them no decals or stickers...it wasn't an ordered vehicle so I could make little demand on mileage, but I was not willing to go beyond 20. I simply went to the dealer that had what I wanted, presented the S Plan information and was off the lot in less than 1 hour.

Mine had 2.4 miles since I bought it while it was still at the US port. No list, but did a quick walk-around after they prepped it and had 'em take off all their junk. They supposedly had "a company policy" that they go and get the first tank of gas put in, which took half an hour but only added five miles to the odo. After about 20 minutes I asked the salesman if the lot guy was putting the gas in with a teacup.
