How many miles before the first oil change?

How long should I wait till the first oil change? My MT has only 2500 miles on it and is six months old. With other cars I have owned, I usually do not go longer then six months between oil changes.

I was a VW guy before and VW uses a special oil at the factory that you must leave in the engine for 5,000 miles or else certain parts will not break-in properly. Currently my oil still looks very clean and I have had to only add one quart of oil so far.

Thanks...........

I changed the oil after I broke in the engine.

you can change it now or change it at 3000, it's not gonna hurt anything.

500 and then another one at 1000, I know that's overkill but I wanted to get all the metal shavings out of my oil system.

I got my first oil change at 2 months, 1200 miles. Not sure about the "new engine/metal shavings" argument—might be true; might be unnecessary. But I figured what-the-hell, $21.95 is pretty cheap insurance, in case it's true.

I think Mazda recommends 4 months or 5000 miles—whichever comes first—so you should probably do it. Better too soon than too late.

My dealer recommends 4 months/8,000 Km but I am going tomorrow with 3,300 KM @ 4 months.

Did my first oil change back in June when I hit 1000km. Not it's 3000km. Will likely schedule a time for change.

Arrow Re:

Had mine changed next day I bought it at 50 miles, then again at 500 miles, then again at 1000 miles Overkill, but the car had sat at the lot for a year and my girlfriend is a Mazda Technician and oil changes at her dealer are only $10 so I just have her drive it to work.

The differential and tranny fluid though were bad, a lot of metal shavings on the drain plug when I finally changed it at 2000 miles.

I always change the oil in a new car the day after I pick it up. Then every 2 to 2.5k miles.

First oil change at 500 miles.

How ever we don't have all those moving parts like a piston engine so chances of metal debree being in the oil is remote.
