How low on the marker do you let your oil go before you add a quart?

My friends 8 is in the middle between high and low, and mine is 1/4 up from the low marker.

And also, what oil do dealerships put in this? 5w-30? 10w-30? My RX8 and my friends were last done at the dealership, and I'd like to try to stay with the same oil they last did it with - at least the same consistancy.

Depends on where I'm headed. If I'm just going back and forth to work, I'll let the oil level get down about half way between the high and low marks on the dipstick before adding any oil. If I'm about to head out on a trip I top off the oil regardless of how little it's below the full mark.

I think the recommended oil weight is 5W-20.

I believe that from the low mark to the high mark is 1.8 quarts. So, if you are 1/4 up from the low, you could use a quart. Of course, you should probably double check your manual first!

I usually throw some in when I'm down to about the last 1/3 of the stick. Seems like a reasonable time to fill it.

I never add oil I just get it changed every 2.5-3k miles. The harder it is driven the more oil you will have to add. It has never got close to the low mark. 20-40 $ is a small price to pay. I have owned many rotarys and love them.

...I take it you keep your oil level to the top of the marks?

my oil light pops up at half way.. normally I add about a quarter or a half a quart when it hits that mark.

usually add oil twice between changes. roughly every 800-1K miles.
