How long do you guys hold key at "start" postion?
better to rotate key and hold the key at start position for 10 seconds when starting the engine. I forgot where I read it, but 100% sure it's from either manual or quick guild-line thing with the car.
But today a dealer told me unless I cannot start the car, it's so wrong to keep the key at "start" for that long.
I m pretty confused now and dont know what to do, how you guys do with this?
(my car's ignition's good, I can start the engine for holding at "start" for less than 0.5 sec)

Hold it only until it starts.
What you probably heard was that if it does not start, don't crank the starter for more than 10 seconds. The manual probably says that somewhere.

Let me also suggest driving around with your emergency brake up at all times. Gets those rear brakes nice and toasty, and if you do have an emergency, you're set! Nothing to do.

There was another thread where someone was told to hold the key in the acc position before starting. Whoever gave him that info was confusing the 8 with a diesel.
Not that hard for someone new to driving and how cars work to get overloaded and confused with odd information. Glad a few of us were able to help.
This may just be a matter of taste, but in this kind of thread the smartass answers tend to to impress me less than the original question.

1. Release key as soon as the car starts normally.
2. If the car "Floods". Cranks but will not start. Follow Owner's Manual instructions. Hold gas pedal all the way to floor. (This shuts off the fuel.) Crank for up to 10 seconds (This clears out the engine of gas). Release gas pedal. Try to restart normally. When it starts release the key. Don't do this many times as you will kill both the battery and the starter.
Read the owner's manual again or you will be spending alot of money soon.

when you get to where you're going, you can let go of the key.

Perhaps the OP is asking the question in regards to priming the fuel pump by keeping the key in ON position before starting?
OP, if this is what you're referring to, I think our cars have electrical fuel pumps that really don't need priming.
