I skip gears all the time - rowing through them all is a pointless excercise in most circumstances .

I go 1-2-3-4, then I wish I had a clutch and curse my impatience with getting an '04 AT...

I touch em all in order. I have gone from 6 to 4 to pass on the highway though.

I like to start in 6th gear since its the fastest one, then work my way down to give myself more power. I dusted this old lady in a civic the other day like that.

But seriously, 1-2-3-4-6 for highways
surface streets usually 1-2-3-4, then 5 or 6 if I'm cruising for a while above 45.

Running through the gears is fun.

I skip 4 when I'm on a quick start. Hard to go up to 6 when the cars are going 45-50 MPH.
But I keep it on 6th once I get to 50 MPH.

Start from 2 a lot, and go through the gears sequentially. The car has more than enough power to pull itself out of even a standstill in second gear.

How do you shift?

I first engage clutch.. then go from gear N to gear N+1. then disengage clutch. repeat until speedometer reads 148.

1,2,3... that's good till about 90 which is all I need since most roads around Baltimore don't go straight for more that a mile. I figure the rest are just bonus gears - you know, for sales purposes.

Actually I'm all over the place: 1,2-4 if I'm following traffic; 1,2,3 if I'm on clear back roads; 1,2,4,6 if I'm on a thick highway; or 1,2,3,4,6-d/c-3,4-6-d/c-3,4-6... until I'm in the clear!

My favorite is the downshift from 6 to 3rd when I need to pass, or when I need to just lift my spirits... =)

LOVE 6-3.... be careful not to slide over to 2nd when shifting TOO quick when trying 4th... almost rolled her as she fishtailed when lefting off the clutch

Yea, I did that on month 3 of ownership.. Cruising at about 75 on a country road, shift to pass, 2ND, BEEP!!!, ****!

Ever since then I'm a bit scared to go from 6th to 4th, though I still do it and it's getting ever easier..

hahah, i had fun to read this post.
i usually skip all gears when i stop or not moving at all.
honestly, i think it's better for all the cars to go through alll the gears, so the car doesn't put too mmuch work when you shift from 2 to 4, for example. tha'ts just what i think, tha'ts why i never skip my gears, unless when i am not moving, then i skip all gears.

When up shifting, I will skip 5th every once in a while but most of my driving in town I only get to 5th. When down shifting, I skip various gears all the time.
