I regularly look at this car forum for pictures and i can't stand how they always bash the rx8. Most of them are 16, 17 year old kids with rice burners who just get a joy out of bashing other peoples cars and im tired of it. The rx8 gets no respect on this forum which has caused tons of rumors that the rx8 is a slug and is just as fast as a geo metro or even slower! Some even claiming they are faster than rx8s even in reverse!! I'm tired of this non-sense and lies about our cars..

Most of them are upset because one of our stock 8's beat a well built integra (which i don't see why its not possible) Will some body please with tons of rotary knowledge please get on this board and shut these rx8 bashing people up.

btw if you are a 8 owner in houston and go to this forum, i wouldn't try and posting, they'll chew you up.

 

Umm it's the internet. Who cares what a bunch of random people think. There will always be people who hate anything and everything.

If you want to go argue with them you don't need a great deal of rotary knowledge. They are comparing Acura Integras to the RX8. FWD = pooh and stock Integra is slower (pick any car mag you wish and look up performance data).

But, there is no point. The integra (RSX after that and Honda Si now) is a good car for a price $10,000 cheaper than the 8. If they want to insist its faster, fine. The most you can do is respectfully show data that it aint.

 

You can't spend your life worrying about what random people on the Internet think. Just tell them they're n00bs and that you'd pwn them and be done with it. The perceptions Americans have of the 8 is that it has no torque and an unreliable rotary engine. It's going to be difficult to change their minds so just let them live in their world of boring conformist mediocrity while you live your life.

they're not just comparing integras to our 8's, but more of comparing our cars to geo metros. Just think about how much our cars would sell if it werent for people like them giving the bad image to our cars. Just think about it, the other day a friend of mine asked me if he could run me and my rx8 and him on foot

Forget those punk 16, 17 year olds. Be mature about it. This car IS more of a mature car. Let them get stopped for speeding, or worse get in an accident.

Like Element said, it's just the internet. If it means that much to you, just find someone that's gone FI and have them own 'em real quick.

There's no point in trying to go on and fight with them. they are saying our cars are slower then a metro, then they say a built up integra got beat by a stock one.

now in their minds that means that the integra must have just misshifted because our cars are incredibly slow and that integra would have had him if he didn't misshift.

They will bend things to fit what they want to make sure their hot done up civics beating our cars. why bother?

I can honestly care less what others think about my car. I bought my car for me, not for someone else's pleasure. The people that do normally talk smack, are usually driving an entry level eco-box anyways. Besides a keyboard and a monitor seem to make people act tougher than they actually are.

Unless you're 16 or 17, what these little twerps think shouldn't bother you in anyway. They were given a piece of **** '98 civic for their 16th birthday, can't afford to buy a car of their own, and have spend all of their hard-earned-McDonald's-Drive-Through money on $2000 worth of shiny **** from Wal-Mart in hopes of fooling some girls into thinking his car is something special.
People who are into "Import" racing are into cheap & easy power. The ideal "import" tuner wants to buy a $13,000 car, put $5000 of bolt-ons on it, and have a car that drives like a $30,000 car. Civics, Accords, Preludes, S2000s, Evos, RX-7s, Integras, and other popular "imports" all have a HUGE market for aftermarket performance upgrade parts. With so many different companies competing, prices are - simply put - competative! Any schmuck who makes minimum wage can afford a racing exhaust, header, cam, or intake within the first month of their employment as the janitor at Burger King.
Need more proof? Ask someone who posts on an Evo forum what they think about "Scoobies." #1 reason you don't like the STI? THE SURVEY SAYS: *ding* "Too expensive/Not enough aftermarket upgrades."
Now let's look at the RX8's upgradability, shall we? One quick glance over this forums stickies and you'll see that you really can't! Want exhaust/intake? Hope you like having less horsepower when the CPU detects the irregular airflow! Want forced induction? Dig deep into your pockets because getting your car to actually use your new FI kit properly is going to take a few trial-and-error flashes! Want an engine built so strong that any mechanic with an IQ high enough to spell "RX-8" correctly within in first nine attempts can shlep on your mods well enough so that you don't have to worry about it hurting damaging anything? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ROTO-GO-BOOM!!!!
If I lived, ate, slept, drank, and breathed the fine art of "import" street tuning, I'm sure I'd hate a car that came out of the factory already installed with the best intake, exhaust, ports, ECU, rims & tires as well. I mean, if I can't make my "import" look like something from a cereal box within the first 3 months of working my $6.50/hr job, then the manufacturers OBVIOUSLY made a pathetically slow & shitty car!

I assure you that this conglomerate of teens did not single-handedly destroy the RX-8's reputation. The RX-8's reputation was damaged before it even hit showroom floors because it housed a 13b - a motor notorious for breaking under it's own power, almost without regards to how well or how poorly it was treated. It then took a strong hit when it continued to show the same problems as it's 10-year-old predecessor; flooding, blowing, overheating, etc. Then Mazda came forth and said to the public "BTW we lied - that engine doesn't even get 200hp to the wheels." Call it "strike 3," if you will.
The RX-8s rep sucks because it was poorly marketed, poorly released, and overly hyped. Blame Mazda. The Houston Import forums didn't say anything that hadn't already been said.

If it really bothers you that much, ask them to prove it. Tell them you want videos of multiple runs - say 20 - of undisputable proof that their car is faster in reverse. The dumb ones will accept your challenge and destroy their tranny, at which point you may poke fun at them.

Does it really matter? Wanna know 2 cars that break down all the time, cost an assload to repair, have God-awful reputations, yet are still sought after, traded, raced, shown off, and hailed as gods? Do the names RX-7FD & 3kGTVR-4 mean anything to you? An engineless, trannyless, guageless, FD SHELL sells for about $3000-$4000 if the interior is in tact and the paint looks new!! Does it *really* sound like it's rep is hurting the value/desireability of the car at all??

I highly doubt that's the one and only reason for their rage. They hate the 8 because it renders the average "import" tuner powerless. Intake & exhaust on most "imports" is a few hundred dollar once-and-done investment that rewards you with obnoxious volume & a few extra horses. Intake & exhaust on an 8 runs you a few thousand dollars, requires a tune & flash (if you want to get MORE horsepower instead of LESS), makes your car sound like an angry vaccum cleaner, and does little more than shave a few pounds off of your curb weight.
As far as most "import" tuners are concerned, if a car can't get a 50% gain in BHP after some dim-witted DIYer slaps on a couple of bolt-ons, then something is terribly wrong with that car! Now how would you feel if a car "specifically re-tuned for street racing" (read: equiped with the latest and greatest upgrades that your Sam's card can buy), got it's *** handed to it on a rotor-shapped silver platter by a "broken" car equiped with the parts that the engineers specifically designed for it?

Nothing will shut them up. They know that if they stopped talking, they might accidentally be forced to think.

I have friends who are on those boards.... In fact I think *all* of my friends post on those boards. They're good people, and they like to talk ****. 90% of them just run their mouths to be funny - not showing off or actually meaning a word of it; just good-humored sarcasm. I've raced them all in my RX-8, and while most of them are faster than me, they all openly admit that while I'm slower, I'm definately not slow.

Again, I'm sure 90% of the "bashings" are more of a hazing-ritual than an actual mean-spirited assualt. I've hung out with these guys in person before, and when the topic of my car comes up, it seems like everybody and their dog has the same story:

we actually have a rule here about trying to entice people over to other forums to argue about this stuff. all it does is start flame wars which the mods there have to put out and then they spill back here which we have to work to put out. so let tem go. if you want to post do so on your own. but stop trying to get others from here involved.
