How do you know, do you have an oil temp gauge installed on your car? Regardless the oil temp will be high because the rotary engine uses the oil to cool the engine. This is why you have oil coolers installed. I'm not sure what is normal but if you do a search you can probably find some info. When I was driving in the rain the other day I noticed steam coming off the driver’s side cooler, it was pretty hot. This is why I'm moving to synthetic oil after break-in 3K to 5K.

while my gauge may be malfunctioning, my temps regularly reach 260F in traffic. They drop to 180F at speed.

yeah i installed the oil temp gauge, and yes its 100c/, is it no problem with using cythesic oil? because i asked the rotary specialise before and they said non-cythesic oil is best for rotary engine, and ive got one more question is do rx8 burn engine oil quick? because i checked the engine oil was less than half after 3000 kms

There has been debate on the site about synthetic/dino oil so search and read for yourself and make you own decision. As far as it burning oil, yes you need to check it regularly to make sure you stay full. My car tends to burn a quart of oil every 1200-1500 miles, I am not sure what that equals out to in liters/kms.

Most of the so called "rotary specialise(specialist?)" are pure-bser.

Tell them to PROVe that synth oil is bad for Rotary, before they open their mouth. and no I dont want "oh 20 years ago blah blah blah, burning not as clean blah blah" Just tell them to bring some oil out, light it up, see the result for yourself.

Anyway, 100C is Ok, thats only around water boiling temp. which is about 212 F

and when you're at speed, your oil cooler will cool your Oil Temp to something like carbonrx8 said. lower or higher, depends onwhere u live.

nycgps is correct IMHO. There is a lot of debate on synthetic oil but if you read it all through I feel you are far better off using it then not. The added protection is undeniable and it was reported that several top Rotary guys at Mazda said it was OK. Also the manual says nothing about not using synthetic.

Read some posts by Rotarygod on the subject, he makes some very convincing arguments for it.

Best oils to use are:
Royal Purple
AMSoil
Redline

Don't get the dealer involved just use it if you want. Why invite possiable problems.
