honda rotary?
don't get me wrong, i love my rx8, and in the pass(rx7 twint turbo 93 and my first car rx7 gtu 86) but with the better fuel economy that honda get out of there car and power, i wish that they try to make one rotary engine. i think that they wood give mazda a good challege if not a run for ther money. what do you all think.
Why would Honda even consider it if they could? They already have an engine that puts out more horsepower than any N/A rotary Mazda has developed. It also can rev as high as the Renesis (the 2L version), gets better gas mileage, and weighs about the same.
nearly everyone tried to develop rotary powered cars in the 70s, then came the oil crisis and they all canned their projects because of the gas mileage. The rotary is also a dirty dirty engine (not that I care) so they have to keep it clean for california emission standards (which robs power)
am thinking out of the box and i think it wood be cool to have more rotary engine in car. i don't care about the gas mileage, this is number three for me and i know it wont be the last one, on less they stop making them.

My 94 accord gave me about the same if not more trouble than my Mazda 626 in repair and reliability. And, my 04 rx8 has been extremely reliable the last 2.5 years of ownership. I hear horror stories about Honda too. They can produce lemmons just like anyone else. So I have to disagree with your statement.

Thats a pretty bold statement to make without anything to prove that honda is more reliable, in fact i think cars from Toyota are far more reliable than any car that honda makes
Over here in the UK Mazda actually have best reliability record, but its worked out by breakdowns/total warrenty claim (£), Mazda's break down more than Hondas but ultimately are cheaper to fix. At least thats in the UK.
Honda have been making >1hp/cc on their vtec 1.6, 1.8 and 2.2 engines for about 14 years now. BMW and others have only recently caught up.
That said, the rotary makes more / cc than any Honda.
Honda get things right (mostly), I have a Prelude and an RX7, I'll be selling them both and getting an RX8 so it by no means puts me off, that said I would be interested in a rotary honda, not that it'll ever happen
I'm no troll, I wouldn't have been on here for 2ish years if that were the case

I don't give Honda any more credit for having better engineers than Mazda, Audi, Cheverolet, etc... It's not a matter of how good you are, but how you are restrained by costs and priorities at a given company.
I'd give GM, Nissan and Mercedes a better chance with the rotary than Honda. All three have a history with the engine.

Audi should be in that list too as they pretty much started/adopted the whole rotary concept:

Ah, for some reason I was thinking NSU was related to Mercedes and not Audi.
As much as I like the rotaries concept you just have to look at the facts.
Advantages of a piston:
-Pistons produce more HP for the fuel consumed.
-Pistons inherently have better torque.
Tie:
Reliability can be equal.
Advantages of a Rotary:
Rotary is lighter.
Rotary is smaller.
The limited advantages of a rotary condemn to a niche market car like the RX.
