Hitting 10,000 miles. An Update.

Please post the some stats on your car if you have passed the 10,000 mile mark.

For me:

1. Car still gives crappy mileage. See my mpg log (link in tagline). I've logged everything since day 1.

2. had some trouble early on "(at ~1500) with shifting, wouldn't go into first sometimes... Never happened again. Currently though, when out of gear with clutch up though, it sounds louder than when I push down on the clutch. Could be early signs of problems or could be normal.. Not sure yet, but any sounds aren't good to me.

3. at 5000 miles. Car burns lots of oil.. About a quart every 2500 miles.. So it seems. Turned out I had an oil leak. Came from behind the oil cooler at the oil line fixture at the bottom of the cooler. The plastic washer was crushed by the manufacturer (or maybe dealership on first change?? didn't happen before).. Anyway it was fixed at 10,000 on my scheduled service.

No other problems.

Impressions.. car still drives beautifully.
Very happy with my ownership so far.
Glad I invested in a clearbra, because this thing is definitely for keeps....

Picked up on September 18, 2004 and have a little over 13000 miles on it.

Gas milage is about the same 260 miles on 13 to 14 gallons of gas, mostly highway driving.

A few rattles inside while driving which I am trying to solve, drives me crazy when I can't find the source. Other than that no major problems.

Holy smokes, you put a lot of miles on your car. Are you a traveling saleman or something? I got my car in July, got 10K on her now, and I thought that was a lot.

Two tanks after 10K my mileage was slightly improved on each. It could be coincidence, or due to new clutch & oil pan, or maybe something is improving. One of those tanks was distance driving, the other local. Only about a 3 percent improvement but i'll take anything.

5800 miles and the gas mileage is at 19 (90% city). I never got below 15 mpg, and have gone as high as almost 24 (an an hour long highway run).

around 10,600. I hit 9000 miles early on - haven't been driving much in the snow/salt - think I've used two tanks since 12/1. Been watching reporting of oil line prob, hotter plugs - will look into all these things after I install the ground kit and get to drive it more. No real problems to report besides ineptness of service dept and lack of desire to learn (read the service guides) about it.

Love it. Don't care much for the gas mileage though.

8750, no issues aside from an annoying rattling from the doors when the bass is turned up and it's cold outside.

2600 miles on my "high torque" AT, about 18 mpg, mostly spirited back road driving with DSC on.

Two repairs:

80 miles: November Seat Belt Debacle/One day in the shop/$87.15 - very funny story.

1,970 miles: Flooded... Emergency Start Procedure Let Me Down/6 days in the shop/"One-time goodwill fix" (I'm waiting for Mazda to get back to me about this one - I'm a bit pissed).

Headroom is borderline with the moonroof (I'm 6'0"); passenger back seat is not large enough for me in front and my son behind me; thought I could get through the winter without driving in icy conditions, but ended up buying winter tires/rims when I realized I couldn't help myself ($1,492).

Drive every night between 11pm and midnight. :D Very happy but want Mazda to clarify its policy on flooding repairs.

2900 miles since 9-18-03. short city commute is killing MPG. heated seats could be warmer. had TSB for oil pan replacement done. no CEL or oil light yet. brakes have started to squeal from time to time. rattle on driver side door due to stryofoam coming loose. audiopilot has a mind of its own. oscillates more than necessary. engine runs great. breaks are excellent. handling excellent.

I thought the audiopilot was a giant waste of money. I turned it off after the first week.

i turned it off too but i noticed that you have to crank it up to compensate for it being off especially at lower listening levels.

Yah but her definition cold in Richmond, VA and your definition of cold in Honolulu, HI are slightly different one would think :p

5000 miles, lousy mileage in stop and go (11-14), overall MPG 15. Brakes squeak after having been wet. Had hot plugs put in, no difference in consumption. Car handles great, wonderful to drive. Could use the ECU replacement though! Love it all in all.

I've noticed that any rattling disappears below 15deg F,and it's been that cold and colder here for 2 weeks.

5,700 miles...

Getting 15 mpg average in city and 22 mpg average on highway which is better then the 10 city and 14 highway I was getting for the first 1k miles.

Brakes sqealed in temps below 25 F. Went away after first 1,500 miles.

Took car into dealership for oil change at 2,100 miles and had center console repaired since the cd storage wouldn't open (plastic piece on slider came out and jammed). Works fine but seems like design flaw since I have read elswhere about the problem. Also complained about squeaking and rattling inside door at low temps 25 F and below.

5k Took car back into dealership to have center console repaired and the the squeaking in door looked at. The doors have 2 styrofoam blocks in them and they shrink in the cold causing them to make a loud squeaking and rattling noise. Dealer took doors apart and glued blocks down with weather stripping glue. Seems to have worked so far. I still notice a slight rattle but now I can't say if it is in the doors or the change box .

Still loving the car and getting plenty of questions. I have yet to see another owner (not dealer owned) RX-8 driving around here :D .

Glad to see lots of votes coming in.. So far it seems the car really holding its own.. no serious faults.. I think this says something about the quality of our vehicles.. We'll do another update poll at 20K and see where everyone's at.

Thanks guys
