Question Highlights CD

Ahura's explanation is correct. In addition, I'd point out that Mazda's own Technical Highlights CD, which they've sent to every dealership in the country, specifically states: (Their emphasis, not mine.)
I've read several references to a CD in different threads. Did some/all of you get a user's/owner's/whatever manual on CD with your car? Or is this just an educational/promotional thing for the dealerships?

Can the contents be downloaded from somewhere?

I have wanted to know about this too. Several people on this site have received all kinds of literature, media, mugs, books, etc. but it does not seem to be distributed equally. I asked my dealer and they said they had seen zilch. Naturally I want it too!

UPDATE

Downloaded it today! Took 11 hours via highspeed.

ed2k://|file|techhighlights.zip|540821793|A5A6BA7FD30040F 9AE226D59EB1398DB|/

sorry I do not know how to post a link here but copy paste it and it will work

Zoom44 below has a link to the original thread where several people were trying to get the file and many did. The links to FTP did not work for me but the edonkey one from downshift (member here) did. You have to download the donkey peer to peer program, log onto a server and then put the info pasted above to find the file. Press start and WAIT! It is definitely intended for dealers but not harmful for owners to have.

Here is the technical highlights CD thread. If it is still hosted, there is a link somewhre in this thread to download it.

The RX-8 Technical Highlights CD is a training tool for Mazda technicians to give them an overview of certain features. It contains about 35 minutes of video on the car. At most dealers, the CD is in the possesion of the service manager.

My dealer let me borrow the CD for a day, too. After viewing it and doing some other things I discovered it accidentally got cloned.:D

Yes, that CD is VERY informative, but it's only available as part of that very expensive "training package".
It REALLY should be made available to everyone !!
There is nothing "secret" in it -- just great info about how a lot of things work.

After I watched it, I tried to get "permission" (it's copyrighted) from SOMEONE at Mazda to either load it on my site, or sell copies of it -- could never get anywhere.

The "word" we received a few days ago was that "someone" was still "looking" into it -- so maybe there IS hope?

Tech Highlights CD image

Some of us have asked for the cd image and been directed to a thread taht contains download links BUT they seem to be all dead oldies and not goodies. Could someone help us out?

The dealer does not know what CD I am talking about. It seems that the only way to get it is through this website.

The .zip file is still available on my FTP site - two folks are logged in and pulling copies right now. Try in a few hours when they've disconnected, beacuse I have it limited to two concurrent connections so it doesn't take all day to download.

I couldn't run the ISO so I had to use that ISO buster software.

If there's enough demand I can zip it again and make it available on the emule network, PM me if you're interested.

I got it! I started downloading last night about 11:30pm and just finished watching it - took about 11 hours to get via high speed access. I pulled it down from the one link given in the thread e-donkey. I used nero and voila!

What a great video.

here is the link that was usable as of today:

ed2k://|file|techhighlights.zip|540821793|A5A6BA7FD30040F 9AE226D59EB1398DB|/

compliments of downshift on this site.

YOu have to have that edonkey peer to peer program loaded and then log into a server.

Sorry ELAK. During the download on that edonkey I saw you as a link. I put you on the que to speed up the process. I had 38 people pulling my bandwidth down and well, wanted to get the file. I went back to you but you were disconnected. I sent a message but you did not respond. I went from 16kps to 38kps when I put everyone on the que. Now, we need to get you the file somehow. It is great!

Talking No worries!

It's not the source that is slow, it's the destination. I'm working my 56k modem overtime

Started out with a bit over 30 hours, right now I've got 15-18 hours to go. After getting the 8 I can't afford that $50 a month for DSL/cable. Gotta have gas!

Thumbs up Cool CD

35 hours later (after several disconnections by my ISP) I finally got the whole CD.

Sh*t! I had no idea they had fitted that much wizardry into the car. Sure hope long term quality is high with so many systems interacting.

After watching this CD I'm no longer convinced that the dynoing is as straight forward as disabling TCS and DSC.

A highly recommended download (albeit hopefully faster than mine).

How come when I run the CD, I don't see the video, only hear audio. But I can click on the video files individually on the CD through Windows Explorer and watch them. They just don't play when I'm running the actual program. Any ideas? I have Win XP Pro and have every patch/update installed.

Worked like a charm for me

Just running the RX8.exe application worked fine for me (w2k, 800MHz Athlon Trbird). Maybe it's an XP problem. Try on an older setup.

RodsterinFL, I need your help - where exactly do I paste this link to ed2k://|file|techhighlights.zip|540821793|A5A6BA7FD30040F 9AE226D59EB1398DB|/.

I went to download eDonkey but there were several files - the web site indicated that if I didn't know which files I needed, that I should download overnet. That's what I did. I started the file, it installed, then froze up when I clicked to register. Anyway, I rebooted the PC, succeeded in launching overnet, and then...what? I pasted your link into the search string and got nothing.

To make the link work, copy it to your clipboard (normal copy command), and then click the transfer tab. Then right click on the page under the tranfer tab and select link from clipboard. On a related note I've been trying for 2-3 days (dsl) and can't download it!! Every now and then I'll connect with a user or two (gamera or fong sui yuc) but no tranfer happens.

Thanks for the hint, I got a bit farther and now (1:00 AM) it is connected and seems to be looking for the file. I'll check on it in about 7 hours.

Clearly this e-donkey isn't working. The window appears the same as it did last night, nothing transferred. Status is still "Looking"!

I installed emule & downloaded the .iso file last night. Download finished about 12:30am est.

Emule is a bit different looking. Dunno if there's a functionality difference or not, but emule got it for me last night. Took a bit less than 5 hours, @ ~31.5kB/s.

Now I need that iso buster software cuz my roxio won't do anything with it. Some message about it's not an image file or some crap like that...

edit...Yeah, go back to that previously discussed original thread, I think page 4 has the meat of it, concerning .iso file problems. Nero demo software should work & there's a few other useable alternatives - "ISObuster" & I forget the others already:p . Do it!

Edonkey requires the owner of the file to have the whole file. So you can only download from people who have the whole cd file.

EMule only requires the owner of the file to have a part of it. Emule will then connect to lots of people who have downloaded different bits of the file. This allows emule to connect to far more people and download it quicker.

I downloaded it with emule. Left it overnight, done by morning.....

Thanks, Racer X-8 - where did you get emule (and will I find just 1 file to download or are there several), and which link led you to the tech-highlights file via emule?
